Hwa Nan Teaching Fellowship

Hwa Nan Women's College is a three-year professional school in Fuzhou, a port city in Fujian province, China. The Hwa Nan Teaching Fellowship supports recent female Puget Sound graduates for a ten-month appointment as a teacher of English conversation and composition at Hwa Nan Women's College. The instructorship involves residence at the College for the academic year and teaching in the Department of Applied Languages. Miki Memorial Scholar Award

The Miki Memorial Scholar Award provides funds to a Puget Sound graduate for tuition and fees for twelve months of intensive Japanese language study at the Kyoto Institute of Culture and Language (KICL), plus round trip airfare to Japan and a monthly stipend of 250,000 yen to cover housing, national health insurance, local transportation, and daily expenses. The Miki Scholar will be expected to live with a host family for at least the first six months, after which the Scholar may choose to continue the homestay or move to a dormitory. Trimble Student Research Fellowship

Students who are declared Asian Studies minors, or majors in Chinese or Japanese, are eligible for the Trimble Student Research Fellowship. The fellowship provides up to $4,000 to support student research in Asia. Asian Studies students are also encouraged to apply for Summer Research Awards provided by the University Summer Scholar and Richard Bangs Collier Scholar programs.
