Dr. Robert Suryan is an Associate Professor – Senior Researcher in the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife at Oregon State University’s Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport, Oregon. Rob has over 20 years of experience studying seabird biology, foraging ecology, and population dynamics. He leads the short-tailed albatross endangered species recovery team and has worked with a team of international scientists to identify important at-sea habitats for this wide-ranging species, reduce threats on land and at sea, and evaluate recovery actions taken. Thought to be extinct as recently as 1949, short-tailed albatrosses are on a good path toward recovery, despite still being less than 1% of their historical population levels.
