In 1998, the Inside Theatre in Jones Hall was renamed Norton Clapp Theatre by the Board of Trustees to commemorate Norton Clapp's dedicated service to the university. Mr. Clapp (1906-1995) was chairman of the Laird Norton Company and president and chairman of Weyerhaeuser Company. He served the University of Puget Sound as a trustee for 62 years (1933-1995), including 19 years as chair of the board. This 62-year term is the longest of any trustee in the university's history and included work with four university presidents.
