“A New Song” Music Scholarship
This fund was established in 1987 by an anonymous donor. The scholarship supports students intending to have full-time careers in Christian music.

Adam S. Goodman Endowed Student Research Fund
This fund was established through a gift from Shepard and Ronni Goodman P’93, parents of Adam S. Goodman ’93, who earned a bachelor's degree in physics. The purpose of this fund is to support students who love physics and to further encourage the warm and supportive atmosphere that students find at the University of Puget Sound.

Adelante Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by a gift from anonymous donors who were passionate about the access to higher education for Latinx students. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to Latinx students to attend the University of Puget Sound, with preference for students from California.

Agricola Scholar Endowed Fund
This fund was established by an anonymous gift in 2013, with an additional gift in 2019 to increase the number of awards available for eligible students. The fund is named after Georgius Agricola, a physician and distinguished mining engineer. The fund is designed to encourage and support original collaborative research between Puget Sound faculty and students in the sciences, social sciences, and humanities, whilst fostering intellectual growth, creative thinking, discovery, and professional development.

Albert and Lora De Young Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2003 through annual gifts from Mr. and Mrs. DeYoung to assist a student from the Lacey, Olympia, or Tumwater area who demonstrates academic achievement and financial need. Preference is given to students who are planning a career in education.

Alice and Paul Hanawalt Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1991 by Frank Hanawalt ’43 and Ruth Nelson ’44 to honor the memory of their parents, Alice ’20 and Paul ’18 Hanawalt P’43, P’44. Paul and Alice placed a high value on education. When Paul Hanawalt died in 1973, his will established a scholarship which would provide financial assistance to a University of Puget Sound student.

Allenmore Medical Foundation Merit Scholarship
The Allenmore Medical Foundation Merit Scholarship, also known as the Lloyd Stanley Durkin Pre-Medical Scholarship, was established in 1979 and is sustained through annual grants. It is awarded to a senior pre-medical student each year on the basis of merit and academic distinction.  The fund was named for Dr. Lloyd Stanley Durkin, an Allenmore trustee who is now retired and who was credited with getting the scholarship established.

Alumni Scholarship
This fund was established in 1988, during the university's centennial year with proceeds from UPSCALE (University of Puget Sound Centennial Auction for Leadership in Education) to provide merit-based awards for incoming freshman students. Preference is given to students not receiving any other university scholarships and children of alumni.

Asian/Pacific Islander Identity Endowed Scholarship
The Asian/Pacific Islander Identity Endowed Scholarship was established by members of the Asian Pacific Islander Collective and Asian Student Community and through the generosity of alumni, parents, and friends of the university. The scholarship is to be awarded to students in good academic standing who demonstrate impressive leadership, and with a preference given to students who identify as Asian and Pacific Islander.

A.O. Burmeister Memorial Award Fund
This fund was established in 1966 by A.O. Burmeister to support prize awards for the Department of Speech (Communications).

A.V. Fawcett Memorial Fund
This fund, created by Mr. and Mrs. Will Thomas, memorializes Will Thomas’s late grandfather, Angelo Vance Fawcett, who was the first elected mayor of Tacoma in 1896. The fund was established in 1985, continuing a long family association with the University of Puget Sound.

A.W. Campbell Scholarship
This fund was established in 1951 by Mr. A.W. Campbell to provide scholarships for students. First preference is given to pre-ministerial students.

Abby Williams Hill Art Collection Fund

Adelphian Touring Endowed Fund
This fund was created in 2002 with help from Dr. Keith Ward, former director of the School of Music, to support annual tour funding for the Adelphian Concert Choir. The fund helps ensure that the choir may continue to perform by invitation at the state, regional, and national conventions of professional music organizations.

Agnes Mossie Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established by Agnes Mossie to provide scholarships for deserving students.

Al and Evelyn Saunders Scholarship
This fund was established in 1986 by Al and Evelyn Saunders. The scholarship provides scholarships for students who are determined to get an education, willing to work hard for it, and demonstrate financial need.

Alan S. Thorndike Summer Research Endowed Fund
This fund was created by family in memory of Professor Emeritus Alan Thorndike, who designed Jim Evans's Antikythera Mechanism, labeled the world's first computer. Grants made from this fund support student participation in summer research with a preference in experimental physics projects.

Albina Makovich Endowed Scholarship
This fund was created in 1993 by Albina Makovich to enable gifted and underpriviledged students to continue their education at the University of Puget Sound.

Alfred and Celia N. Grau Scholarship
This fund was established in 1980 by the Celia N. Grau Trust. The fund supports a scholarship in the liberal arts.

Alice Ann Glenn Endowed Scholarship
This fund was establshed in 2014 by Alice Ann Glenn ’68 to support students who are from an underrepresented group to access higher education.

Alice B. Ayers Scholarship
This fund was established in 1951 by J.R. Ayers in memory of his wife, Alice B. Ayers. The scholarship supports promising students planning to enter full Christian service.

Allan Day Sapp Scholarship
This fund was established in 1956 to support students studying business and science.

Allie Jones Memorial Fund
This fund was established in 1952 by Martha Pearl Jones, professor of speech at the University of Puget Sound, in memory of her mother, Allie Jones. The scholarship supports worthy students majoring in speech.

Amy D. Carlson Endowed Faculty Support Fund
This fund supporting faculty was established in 2018 by Amy Carlson ’67, who credits her liberal arts education for encouraging her to pursue and enabling her success in areas beyond those directly associated with her degree.

This fund was established in 2018 by Amy Carlson ’67. Amy credits her liberal arts education for encouraging her to pursue and enabling her success in areas beyond those directly associated with her degree, and would like to provide students with the same opportunity.

Anna Clift Hicks Scholarship
This fund was established in 1968 by Clifton J. Hicks in memory of his wife. It is awarded at the discretion of Student Financial Services.

Anne E. Snow Foundation Scholarship
This fund was formed by Anne and Lester Snow to support students who graduated from Toppenish High School (WA), are active in volunteer work, and demonstrate interest in Hispanic and English literature and languages. The Snows believe strongly in a liberal arts education and wish to encourage young people to become well-rounded lifelong learners.

Apple Physical Therapy Award
This fund supports students in healthcare who are voluntarily entering physical therapy proposals for competition. Awards are granted to the student groups whose proposal is judged to be the most innovative, creative, and feasible.

Arthur and Dorothy Johnson Scholarship
This fund was established in 1952 by Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Johnson to support pre-ministerial students.

Arthur Martin - Franklin Johnson Memorial Fund
This unrestricted fund was established in 1952 by family and friends in memory of Arthur Martin, a returned missionary who taught mathematics at Puget Sound. The fund was later supplemented by gifts from family and friends in memory of Dr. Martin’s son-in-law, Franklin E. Johnson, who was a member of the University of Puget Sound Board of Trustees, and further supplemented in 1981 with a gift from Mrs. Frances Johnson and family in honor of her father and husband.

Arvilla R Todd Scholarship

Asian Pacific Islander Identity Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 2017 by members of the Asian Pacific Islander Collective and Asian Student Community and through the generosity of alumni, parents, and friends of the university. The scholarship seeks to alleviate some of the barriers to higher education for Asian/Pacific Islander students who demonstrate impressive leadership.

Asian Studies Program Support Grant
This fund was established in 1975 by an anonymous donor. The fund provides support to the Asian studies Program.

Associated Students of the University of Puget Sound Student to Student Scholarship
This fund was established in 1989 by the Associated Students of the University of Puget Sound to provide scholarships. The student must be a member of ASUPS and must be a full-time student making normal progress with three or more units for the semester in which the application is being filed.

Bakke Scholarship
The Bakke Scholars Program was established in 1991 by Dennis Bakke ’68 and his wife, Eileen Lightsey Bakke. The renewable scholarship supports students with strong Christian faith, with preference to those with financial need.

Barbara Albertson-Johnson Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 2000 by gifts from family and friends of Barbara Albertson-Johnson ’51, P’77. The fund supports students with financial need who are in the M.A.T. program and are majoring in elementary education.

Barnett Crivici Family Endowed Fund
This fund was established in 2017 by Rich Barnett ’77 and Anna Crivici to support student summer research awards in chemistry. The award was inspired by the formative research experiences Rich enjoyed as a student at Puget Sound.

Barton and Luz Hartzell Scholarship
This fund was established by Barton ’51 and Luz Hartell to support students majoring in a foreign language who intend to to enter the field of foreign trade with a US company or in the US diplomatic service and who have demonstrated financial need.

Beardsley Family Community Endowed Scholarship
The Beardsley Family Community Endowed Scholarship was established in 2018 by the Beardsley Family Foundation to support local students, with preference to students from Vashon Island.

Beardsley Family Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2011 by the Beardsley Family Foundation to support a student in the Occupational Therapy or Physical Therapy programs with demonstrated financial need.

Ben and Slava Heuston Memorial Shakespeare Fund
This fund was established in 1950 by the children of Ben and Slava Heuston in memory of their parents. The fund is awarded to an outstanding student in Shakespeare.

Ben B. Cheney Foundation Scholarship
This fund was established by the Ben B. Cheney Foundation Scholarship to provide support for students who live in the Tacoma, Pierce County, and Washington area.

Benaroya Foundation Scholarship
This fund was established in 1986 by the Benaroya family to provide financial assistance for students with demonstrated need.

Berk and Cochran Family Annual Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2019 by Dr. Martin Cochran ’03. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide need-based aid to students in good academic standing for four years.

Bernhardt and Martha Wirth Memorial Scholarship
The Bernhardt and Martha Wirth Memorial Scholarship was established in 1961 by a bequest from Bernhardt and Martha Wirth to support students planning to enter the ministry or mission field.

Bernice Selberg Keehn Scholarship
The scholarship was established in 1984 by Julie Foss Stuhr to honor Bernice Selberg Keehn, who was her teacher and later her colleague at Stevenson High School in Stevenson, Washington. The funds support women who identify as Black, Hispanic, or Native American and demonstrate both academic merit and financial need. Priority is given to students studying a foreign language.

Beta Sigma Phi Scholarship
This fund was established in 1959 by a gift from Tacoma City Council and with additional support from chapters of Beta Sigma Phi. The scholarship was created to aid worthy students.

Beta Theta Pi Fraternity Endowed Scholarship
This fund was created by Beta Theta Pi - Delta Episilon Chapter alumni leaders and founding donors to encourage members who show promise as leaders by providing scholarship awards to help make their Puget Sound education more affordable and accessible.

Beta Theta Pi House Fund
This fund was established by gifts from many members of the Delta Epsilon Alumni Association of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity at University of Puget Sound and other alumni of the general fraternity to provide expendable support for the furnishing of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity house at the University of Puget Sound.

Bethel and Edwin Schneebeck Scholarship
This fund was established in 1981 by Ed and Bethel Schneebeck P’61. The fund supports pre-ministerial students.

Bethesda B. Buchanan Occupational Therapy Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1946 by the State of Washington Tuberculosis Association in memory of Bethesda B. Buchanan in recognition of her long, devoted, and humanitarian services to the people of the state of Washington. The fund provides scholarships for the School of Occupational Therapy.

Betty Sapp Ragan Endowed Fund
This fund was established in 2017 by Robert (Mac) Ragan and Daniel L. Nichols to create the Betty Sapp Ragan Endowed Professorship in the studio arts in the Department of Art and Art History in memory of Professor Emerita Betty Sapp Ragan. The fellowship provides faculty support for expenses related to sabbaticals, research, travel, publications, and exhibitions and shows in which faculty present their art.

Betsy Campbell Stone ’79, P ’14 & Thom Stone ’14 Annual Scholarship
The Betsy Campbell Stone ’79, P ’14 and Thom Stone ’14 Annual Scholarship was established by Betsy Campbell Stone and her son, Thom, in 2018. The funds support a student in need in good academic standing for four years.

Bill Campbell Memorial Fund
This fund was established in memory of Dr. William J. Campbell by his wife, Dr. Nelly Campbell, and Bill's many friends around the world. The fund supports one or more students who intend to study abroad for at least the term in a University of Puget Sound study abroad program. Preference is given to extend student's stay or expand their study, and also may be used to fund student participation in study abroad.

Bill Colby Art Scholarship
This fund was estalished in 1987 by Professor Bill Colby to support students majoring in art. Professor Colby taught art at Puget Sound for 33 years and is credited with building the printmaking program at the university.

Bob Ford Fund
The Bob Ford Fund was established in 1995 in honor of Robert C. Ford, Puget Sound alumnus and professor of education, with gifts from classmates, colleagues, students, and associates of Dr. Ford when he retired. The purpose of this scholarship is to make Puget Sound education available to students from diverse racial, ethnic, and economic backgrounds.

Boeing Business Leadership Program Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1985. It is a renewable award with few restrictions in regard to amount awarded, number of scholars, and other factors.

Boeing Science Faculty Startup Fund
This fund was established in 2001 by the Boeing Company. The fund provides start-up funds for new science faculty, including lab equipment.

Boomer Family Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established by Ronald ’72 and Sylvi Boomer P’89, P’94 through a gift annuity in 2005. Scholarship awards are made in accordance with the university's endowment policy, with donor preference that awards go to junior or senior students majoring in math, science, or Asian studies.

Brew Family Annual Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2021 by Conway and Sharon Brew P’21. The annual scholarship is unrestricted and need-based to support a student in good academic standing for four years.

Broderick-Gross Family Annual Scholarship
This fund was established in 2019 by Brian Gross ’98 to provide a need-based scholarship to a student in good academic standing for four years.

Brooks Brittenham Hull Endowed Fund
This fund was established in 2021 through a gift from the Brooks B. Hull ’74 and Annette M. Lozon Charitable Trust, a donor advised fund, to establish the Brooks Brittenham Hull Endowed Professorship of Economics. The Brooks Brittenham Hull Endowed Professorship of Economics will be selected from among the faculty in the economics department and chosen by the Provost in accordance with university policies and procedures.

Brooks Endowed Scholarship
The Richard M. and Stephanie T. Brooks Endowed Scholarship was established by Rick ’82 and Stephanie Brooks in 2007. The scholarship may be awarded to one or more students with demonstrated financial need.

Brother and Sister Scholarship
This fund was established in 1960 by Mrs. R. Marie Veldee to create two equal scholarships in memory of her husband, William J. Veldee, and his sister, Ida Veldee Isle, to support students of major Protestant denominations studying religious education and church music. R. Marie later provided additional funds to create a third scholarship in her honor supporting students in elementary education, and a fourth scholarship to be awarded for any of the aforementioned fields.

Brown and Haley Lecture Series Endowed Fund
This fund was established by Fred T. Haley in 1981 through a series of gifts by Brown & Haley to support the Brown and Haley Lecture Series. The lecture series began at the university in 1953, established by J.C. Haley, president of Brown & Haley, and Puget Sound President Emertius Franklin Thompson, to provide talks that focus on urgent problems confronting society with an emphasis on social sciences and humanities.

Brown-Danes Award
This fund was established in the mid-1980s to honor Professors Bert E. Brown and Z. Frank Danes and support students studying physics.

Business Leadership Council Endowed Scholarship
The Business Leadership Council Endowed Scholarship was established by members of the Board of Visitors in 2001. Comprised of regional business leaders, the Business Board of Visitors is an advisory body to the president and the Board of Trustees of the University, who also assists and participates in the promotion of the programs of the School of Business. The endowed scholarship was established to help make a first-rate interdisciplinary business education available to all Puget Sound students.

Burlington Northern Curriculum Development
This fund was established in 1985 by the Burlington Northern Foundation to provide academic support and financial need for curriculum development at the University of Puget Sound, both for the undergraduate program and the law school.

C and G Electronics Company Fund
This fund was established in 1956 by L. R. Norberg, President of C & G Radio Supply Company. The scholarship supports worthy students with financial need.

Cameron Music Fund

Campbell Science Teacher Scholarship
This fund was established in 1964 by Arabel Campbell Clark in memory of her parents, Matthew Scott Campbell and Ida Mary Gilkerson Campbell, and stepmother Maud Rogers Campbell, to support upperclass students majoring in natural sciences and planning to teach science.

Carl G. Behnke Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 2002 through a gift from Carl G. Behnke. This scholarship supports students who demonstrate academic merit and/or financial need.

Carla and Steve Cooper Scholarship
This fund was established by Carla ’72 and Steve Cooper through a stock gift in 2007. The purpose of this scholarship is to support one or more students majoring in music, with a preference for students with demonstrated financial need.

Carol A. Dahlstrom Excellence in Teaching Scholarship
This fund was established by Carol A. Dahlstrom ’68 to support promising students with demonstarted financial need who are enrolled in the School of Education Master of Arts in Teaching program.

Carolyn Kay Marquardt “Go See Stuff” Endowed Fund
This fund was established in 2017 by Reid Champagne in memory of his late wife, Carolyn Marquardt, to enhance students’ experiential learning through stipends that allow participation in an international study abroad program, particularly for students studying German and visiting German-speaking countries.

Carolyn Schneider Memorial Fund
This fund was established in 1979 by the family of Carolyn Schneider. The fund provides resources to purchase art books for the Collins Memorial Library.

Caruthers Family Scholarship
The Caruthers Family Scholarship was established by the Caruthers Family Foundation in 1999. The Caruthers Family Foundation was established in 1994 as a way of supporting organizations of importance to the family. This fund supports students who demonstrate academic merit and/or financial need.

Catherine Gould Chism Scholarship
This scholarship was created in 1978 to provide permanent support for the arts and humanities at Puget Sound. Catharine and her husband, Middleton Chism, came to Seattle in 1929 and became lifelong patrons of Northwest arts. Awards are given based on merit to incoming freshmen planning to major in arts or the humanities who maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher.

Chap and Eve Alvord Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 2002 by a gift from Ellsworth C. "Chap" Alvord III M.B.A.'71 and his wife. At the time that the fund was established, Mr. Alvord was a member of the Board of Visitors for the School of Business and Leadership at the University of Puget Sound. Awards are made to one or more students majoring in business with demonstrated financial need.

Charles and Ann Zittel Debate Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1993 by Charles ’36 and Ann ’37 Zittel. The Zittels were both born and raised in Tacoma, attending the College of Puget Sound and participating on the debate team, where they first met. Their scholarship supports an incoming freshman each year who plans to participate in debate at the University of Puget Sound. The recipient has demonstrated financial need, a minimum GPA of 3.0, considerable experience and success in debate, and leadership qualities proven to be exceptional to the selection committee.

Charles and Barbara Bingham Scholarship
The Charles and Barbara Bingham Scholarship was established by Charles "Charley" and Barbara Bingham in 1987. Charley served on the Business Leadership Program Board from 1978 to 1994 and served as the board's chair for many years. The award is made each year to students from an underrepresented group who are in the Business Leadership Program.

Charles and Roberta Daniel Endowment Fund
This fund was established by Charles ’65 and Roberta ’66 Daniel to support blind students who are pursuing and undergraduate or post-graduate education.

Charles Garnet Trimble Endowed Fund in Chinese Studies
The endowed fund was established in 1991 by Robert "Bob" ’37 and Genevieve Trimble and named for their son, Charlie. The award is given to students with a major or minor in Asian studies, with preference given to students focusing on Chinese studies. The fund provides financial aid to one or more Chinese national exchange students, researchers, or junior faculty to attend Puget Sound to study, assist in research projects, or to teach.

Charles M. and Mary L. Heinze Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 2020 by Charles ’69 and Mary L. Heinze to support students with demonstrated financial need pursuing a graduate degree in occupational therapy.

Charles T. Battin Memorial Fund
This fund was established in 1961 by Charles T. Battin, professor emeritus of economics, as a living memorial. The fund is used by Sigma Nu Fraternity for the residence hall.

Charlie Pellegrin Endowed Scholarship
This endowed scholarship was established by Helen Pellegrin P’85 in memory of her son, Charlie Pellegrin ’85. Awards are made to one or more students with demonstrated financial need who are among those from underrepresented backgrounds, with preference given to African American students.

Chili Johnson STEM Studies Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2015 by a gift from Brian Johnson P’17, Judi Gonzales-Johnson P’17, and Christian "Chili" Johnson ’17. Their goal is to open the door for students who might not have the opportunity to study in a smaller, collaborative environment. The award is given to an underrepresented student of color studying science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM).

CHispA Leadership Scholarship
This fund was established in 2014 by members of the University of Puget Sound Community for Hispanic Awareness (CHispA) to provide resources such as textbooks and technology to underrepresented students, particularly undocumented residents, with demonstrated financial need.

Chris and Elsie Betz Scholarship
This fund was established in 1971 by Chris and Elsie Betz. The scholarship supports students enrolled in pre-ministerial work.

Christian Johnson Endeavor Foundation Summer Research
This fund was established in 2007 by the Christian Johnson Endeavor Foundation to provide student stipends for summer research in the humanities, arts, and social sciences.

Christopher McKenna Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 2017 by Christopher McKenna ’76 to support students with an interest in writing.

Christopher R. Pohlad Fund
This fund was established in 2013 by a generous grant from the Eloise and Carl Pohlad Fund of the Minneapolis Foundation of Minneapolis, Minnesota, to support students engaged with faculty members in collaborative projects involving international travel, particularly in the area of Politics & Government.

Claire and Don Egge Endowed Library Fund
This endowed fund was established in 2011 by Claire and Don Egge to provide support to the archive program and special collections at Collins Memorial Library. Grants from this fund are made annually at the discretion of the library director, in consultation with the Office of the Academic Vice President.

Claire and Ken Stevens Endowed Fund
This fund was created in 2022 by Claire Stevens to provide resource support for the Masters of Public Health program at the University of Puget Sound.

Claire Brossoit Hoffner Scholarship
This fund was established in 2004 by Claire B. Hoffner. The scholarship supports a student majoring in French, Latin, or mathematics, with a 3.2 grade point average or better.

Clark and Francez Wood Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 1998 through the trusts of The Rev. Dr. Clark J. ’34, Hon.’53 and Francez Wood and their son, Jay C. Wood, to support students who plan to enter Christian ministry on a full- or part-time basis.

Clark Memorial Scholarship for Study Abroad
The Clark Memorial Scholarship for Study Abroad was established in memory of Brian C. Clark by Kenneth ’82 and Rosemary Willman. Brian was an international advertising executive who exemplified the benefits of having a wide variety of cultural experiences and a broad international perspective. The purpose of the Clark Memorial Scholarship for Study Abroad is to assist students who might not have the resources to study abroad.

Class of 1943 Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by the Class of 1943 in honor of their 50th class reunion in 1993. The scholarship is awarded to a student from the state of Washington who has financial need.

This scholarship was established by the Class of 1944 in honor of their 50th class reunion in 1994. The scholarship is awarded to one or more students enrolled at the university with demonstrated academic merit and/or financial need.

The Class of 1961 Scholarship was established by Puget Sound's graduating class in 1961. The award is made to a Puget Sound student with financial need.

Class of 1982 Endowed Senior Book
This fund was established in 2003 through gifts from the Class of 1982 to provide two book scholarships to students with demonstrated need in honor of their outstanding achievements in the areas of service and academics.

Class of 1989 Library Book Fund
This fund was established in 1989 by the Class of 1989. The fund is used to purchase books and magazines for student use.

Class of 2005 Endowed Scholarship
As part of a fundraising initiative that began in the 2004-2005 year, the University of Puget Sound sought to raise funds from parents of the members of each graduating class to create endowed financial aid funds in the name of that class. As part of this initiative, the university, through the support of a group of parents, established the Class of 2005 Endowed Scholarship to support one or more students at the university in accordance with its policy and procedures.

Class of ’80 Book Endowment Fund
This fund was established in 1980 by the Class of 1980. The fund is used to purchase books for the Collins Memorial Library.

Claude Major Memorial Scholarship
The Claude Major Memorial Scholarship was established in 2003 by the Aberdeen Methodist Church.

Clement Carlson Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1989 by Clement J. Carlson to support one or more students preparing for full-time Christian service.

Cleone Soule Scholarship
The Cleone Soule Scholarship was established in 1944 to assist a music student with a credible academic record, need, and outstanding ability in music.

Clyde John and Victoria Backus Scholarship
This fund was established in 1989 by Joyce Backus in memory of her parents, Clyde John and Victoria Backus, to support students with demonstrated financial need with perference to Native American students.

College Spark Scholarship
The College Spark Scholarship was established in 2012 by a grant from College Spark Washington. College Spark Washington supports access to higher education for underrepresented students who participate in access programs by funding grants to organizations and institutions across Washington State.

Commander and Mrs. Lloyd C. Morse Scholarship
This fund was established in 1992 by Lloyd ’43 and Maxine ’70 Morse to support promising students who are U.S. citizens with demonstrated financial need.

Community Scholarship
This endowed fund was established in 1998 to promote diversity within the university's student body by supporting the education of African American students. The scholarship provides financial assistance to students from Pierce County public high schools, with a preference for African Americans with demonstrated financial need.

Constance R. Lyon Memorial Scholarship
This unrestricted fund was established in 1987 by Constance R. Lyon, a lifelong resident of Tacoma who was intensely interested in helping young people help themselves.

Cora and Francis Kuehl Unrestricted Endowment Fund
This unrestricted fund was created in 1985 by Cora and Francis Kuehl to support young people who might not otherwise be able to obtain a higher education. Further funding for this scholarship was provided through a bequest Cora left for her sister, Mae Van Scoyoc.

Cordelia Wikarski Meidel Artist in Residence
This fund was established in 2000 through a gift from anonymous donors to cover a portion of the total compensation for a full-time, continuing faculty member in the School of Music to teach chamber music and other areas of expertise. The fund was renamed in honor of Cordelia Meidel, who served as the School of Music's Northwest Artist in Residence, following her retirement in 2012.

Coy M. and Nadine K. Mobley Endowed Geology Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2001 by Coy ’51 and Nadine ’51 Mobley. Coy and Nadine were both geology majors from the class of 1951 and established this scholarship in conjunction with their class's 50th reunion as a way of giving back to the University of Puget Sound for their education and to support young geologists.

Crawford R. Thoburn Memorial Fund
This fund was established in 1946 by gifts from the children of Crawford R. Tohburn in memory of their father. Crawford R. Tohburn was President of the College of Puget Sound from 1892-1898.

Creighton Scholarship
This fund was established in 1997 by Jack W. Creighton Jr., a member of the Puget Sound Board of Trustees from 1988 to 2004, to provide scholarships for deserving students from underrepresented backgrounds with a preference for Native American, Hispanic, and African-American students.

Cynthia Roth Expendable Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in memory of Cynthia Roth ’89 in 2001 through a gift from Urban P’89 and Donna Roth, MVP Physical Therapy, and family and friends to support students participating in the physical therapy program, with preference given to working mothers.

Cyrus Ames Wright Scholarship
This fund was established in 1992 by Dr. Cyrus Ames Wright to support one or more students with demonstrated financial need who are preparing for the ministry.

D. Light and Pietenpol Family Experiential Learning Endowed Fund
This fund was established in 2022 by Diana D. Light and the Pietenpol Family to provide support for Puget Sound students to intern with nonprofit organizations that - through education and service - are working to prevent HIV infection, assist persons affected by HIV/AIDS, address related health problems, and combat associated stigma and discrimination.

D.S. Harder Humanities Scholarship
This scholarship was established by a private donor to assist highly talented students from the midwest or eastern regions of the United States majoring in the humanities: history, philosophy, religion, English, languages, comparative literature, or Asian studies.

Dale Jepsen Fund
This fund was established in 1990 by Dale Jepsen to provide annual awards to one or more students majoring in occupational therapy.

Dan and Charrie Gamer Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1987 by Charrie Palmer Gamer. The scholarship supports students in need of finacial assistance in order to obtain a college education.

Daniel and Lynda King Sabbatical Enhancement Award
This fund was created in 2016 by Daniel (Dan) ’70 and Lynda King to support research related expenses, such as supplies and travel, for faculty research during sabbatical leave.

Daniel J. Johnson Geology Field Research Fund
The Daniel J. Johnson Geology Field Research Fund was established in 2006 by Aylin Llona in memory of her husband, Dr. Daniel J. Johnson ’81. In Dan's career as a geologist, he worked with students on research projects at UPS and he too, as an undergraduate at UPS, attended a research trip with Professor Al Eggers to study volcanoes in Guatemala. This endowment fund was established to similarly inspire students by facilitating and supporting such excursions.

Darrell L. Willits Art Department Endowment
This fund was established in 2008 by Darrell L. Willits. The fund provides grants to support the art department's operating budget.

David and Julie Watson Family Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2013 by David ’92 and Julie Watson. The scholarship is made to support one or more students enrolled at the University of Puget Sound with demonstrated financial need.

David E. and Andrea Lungren Schneebeck Music Fund
This fund was established in 2014 by David ’61 and Andrea Lungren Schneebeck P’92 to provide discretionary unrestricted support to the School of Music for the purchase of equipment, facilities enhancements, or music ensemble tours.

David E. Schneebeck Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 2014 by David E. ’61 and Andrea Lungren Schneebeck P’92 to support students pursuing a degree in mathematics.

David Jenkins Endowment for Experiential Learning
This fund was established in 2019 by David Jenkins ’79 to support research and experiential learning opportunities for students, particularly for experiences focused on improving the environmental health of Puget Sound and/or the world's oceans.

David L. Handy Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1965 through gifts from the family and friends of David Handy ’61 to support promising students with demonstrated need.

David L. Pulliam Scholarship
This fund was established in 1992 through the trust of Stanford E. Pulliam in honor of his son, David L. Pulliam, to support art students of high academic caliber with demonstrated financial need.

David Merrell Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1985 by Arnold and Marilyn Merrell P’85 in memory of their son, David ’85 to support a junior or senior student majoring in business or liberal arts with demonstrated financial need and academic achievement, as well as evidence of leadership and involvement in campus activities.

David Poston ’85 Annual Scholarship
This fund was established in 2019 by David Poston ’85 to provide a need-based scholarship for a student in good academic standing for four years. David graduated from the University of Puget Sound with a Bachelor of Arts in business administration.

David West Brown Endowed Scholarship
The David West Brown Endowed Scholarship was established in 1991 by David's parents, Harmon and Elizabeth Brown. David graduated from the University of Puget Sound with a B.A. in English in 1991, and a M.A.T. in 1997. The fund supports students majoring in English, with preference for an emphasis in creative writing.

Davis Library Fund
This fund was established in 1944 by a gift from the Alumni Association of the University of Puget Sound. The fund supports the purchase of books for Collins Memorial Library in the field of history.

Davis, Wright, Tremaine Pre-Law Scholarship
This fund was established in 2003 to provide scholarship assistance to one or more upper-class students with plans to attend law school.

Dayharsh Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1959 by Kathleen O. Dykeman and the Pacific Northwest Conference of the Spokane-Manitou District of the Methodist Church in memory of Mrs. Alice E. Dayharsh, a teacher in Church schools for 55 years. The scholarship supports a student studying in the mission program of the Methodist Church.

Deanna and John Oppenheimer Student Activities Fund
This fund was established in 2009 by Deanna ’80 and John F. ’80 Oppenheimer P’11, P’14 to support events that bring together students and the university's president.

Deb Waldal and Adrian Smith Endowed Scholarship
This endowed fund was established in 2015 by Deborah Waldal Smith ’88 and Adrian Smith. Deb and Adrian believe education is an important investment and established this scholarship for the purpose of making a lasting impact to help make a Puget Sound education a reality for future students.

Deb Waldal Smith and Adrian Smith Annual Scholarship
This fund was established in 2022 by Deb L. Waldal Smith ’88 and Adrian Smith to provide scholarship support to a student with good academic standing and demonstrated need for four years.

Delmar and Hazel Gibbs and Mary Gibbs Wright Scholarship
This fund was established in 2001 through gifts from the family and friends of Delmar and Hazel Gibbs P’56, P’63, P’66 to support one or more students with demonstrated financial need, particularly students majoring in education, music, English, math, physics, and/or Occupational/Physical Therapy.

Delta Phi Fund
The Delta Phi Fund was established by gifts from Sigma Chi alumni of the Delta Phi Chapter of the University of Puget Sound in 2006. The purpose of the fund is to encourage students to pursue both academic and non-academic activities to help foster and promote the ideals of friendship, justice, and learning in themselves and fellow students. All students are eligible and encouraged to apply who are pursuing efforts in human rights advocacy and/or social and economic justice.

Delwen and Genevieve Jones Music Scholarship
This fund was established in 1992 by Dr. Delwin and Genevieve Jones to support students, particularly music majors, participating in the music program at Puget Sound.

Diane E. Taylor-Palaro Memorial Scholarship
The Diane E. Taylor-Palaro Memorial Scholarship was established in 1997 by Wallace ’50 and Julia Taylor in memory of their daughter, Diane. The purpose of this fund is to assist young women who are trying to obtain a college education.

Dillard Howell Endowed Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1986 by Mildred Howell in memory of her husband, Dillard, to support students in undergraduate or graduate studies who have completed their participation in intercollegiate athletics.

Dirk Andrew Phibbs Memorial Fund
The Dirk Andrew Phibbs Memorial Fund was established in 1983 through gifts made by friends and family of Phil and Gwen Phibbs in memory of their son, Dirk, who passed away at the age of four from a rare blood disease. The purpose of the fund is to support faculty research and travel. His family hopes that through this fund, supported faculty members may be able to move beyond the area of their normal focus to enhance the breadth of their teaching in a liberal arts curriculum.

Doc and Lucille Weathers Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1991 by Doc and Lucille Weathers to support students majoring in music.

Dolores Lovejoy Fabulich Visual Arts Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 2022 by Dolores Lovejoy Fabulich ’52, P’76, P’77 to support one or more students majoring in art and art history.

Don and Blanche Dippert Scholarship
This fund was established in 1993 by Blanche Dippert to support students of high scholarship and character who, without financial aid, could not afford a college education.

Don M. and Nancy R. Hoff Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1999 by Don M. ’50 and Nancy R. ’51 Hoff. Don and Nancy Hoff are enthusiastic and loyal alumni and leaders of the University of Puget Sound, supporting numerous funds and serving on multiple boards. This fund supports students of African American heritage from the Tacoma Public School District with financial need.

Donald Duncan Swimming Fund
This fund was established in 1993 in honor of faculty emeritus and swimming coach Don Duncan's 37 years service to Puget Sound to strengthen and enhance the UPS swimming program.

Donald R. Shotwell Memorial Fund
The Donald R. Shotwell Memorial Scholarship was established in 1954 by Donald ’31 and Lillian ’31 Shotwell in memory of their son, Donald Shotwell. This award is made to students with good grades, excellent character, and who exemplify those fine traits of promise shown so ably by Donnie Shotwell before his untimely death.

Dora and Cluade V. Munsey Scholarship
This fund was established in 1967 by Dora and Claude V. Munsey. The scholarship supports students with financial need.

Dorey Brown Weiss Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 2003 by Harmon and Elizabeth Brown P’88, P’91 in honor of their daughter Dorey Weiss ’88 to provide support for students who are enrolled in the Masters of Education program with an emphasis in counseling.

Dorothy Greenwood OT Scholarship
This fund was established in 2003 to provide financial assistance to students in the School of Occupational Therapy.

Dottie Rasmussen Leadership Award
This fund was established in 1991 to provide leadership awards for students with the most outstanding records of service and leadership on campus and in the larger community.

Douglas Edwards Memorial Fund
The Douglas Edwards Memorial Fund for Faculty Research was established in 2008 by family and friends of Doug Edwards to honor his memory. Doug Edwards was a professor of religion in 1987 at the University of Puget Sound. Doug was unable to complete his research and write his books before he passed away from cancer. The fund was created to complete the publication of Doug's work, and later to support the research of other members and faculty whose lives and life-work are as happily and inextricably mingled as Doug's were.

Douglas F. Oppenheimer Family Endowed Scholarship
The Douglas F. Oppenheimer Family Endowed Scholarship was established in 2013 by Doug Oppenheimer P’04, P’10. The fund supports students at the University of Puget Sound with financial need.

Downes Family Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2015 by Joe and Lisa Downes P’15. Their son, Devin ’15, majored in biology with a minor in Chinese. The donors aim to provide students the same opportunities their son received in obtaining a liberal arts education. Preference is given to juniors or seniors with demonstrated financial need.

Dr. and Mrs. Ansel Tefft Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1963 by Dr. W. N. Tefft in memory of his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Ansel Tefft. The scholarship supports a deserving student in the field of Christian education.

Dr. and Mrs. Arthur Marsh Memorial Fund
This fund was established in 1957 by Mr. Arthur Marsh, former Dean of the College of Puget Sound, and friends in memory of Mrs. Arthur Marsh, science instructor at the College of Puget Sound. The fund provides scholarship aid to worthy students.

Dr. Albert F. Lee Memorial Scholarship
The Dr. Albert F. Lee Memorial Scholarship was established in 1983 by friends and family of Albert F. Lee. Albert was a very dedicated physician who took pride in helping his fellow man. His family felt that a scholarship to help students interested in the sciences, particularly students on the pre-med track, would be the most meaningful memorial to him.

Dr. Andrew F. and Sharon L. Rex Endowed Scholarship
This fund was created in 2019 by Dr. Andrew F. and Sharon L. Rex to support students, preferably those majoring in physics, science, or mathematics, who have demonstrated high academic achievement in their classes at Puget Sound and the promise of outstanding performance during the rest of their undergraduate years and beyond.

Dr. Bruce Rodgers Adelphian Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1981 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Adelphian Concert Choir and to pay tribute to the leadership, inspiration, and artistry of Professor Rodgers, founder and director of the Adelphians, the University Madrigal Singers, and the UPS-Tacoma Civic Chorus. The scholarship is designed to attract and retain talented students in the Adelphian Concert Choir.

Dr. David Tison Endowment Fund
This fund was created in 1991 by Dr. David ’74 and Regina ’99 Tison to support the travel of students presenting their biological research results at scientific meetings or to support student summer research activities.

Dr. Elden E. “Josh” Billings Endowed Library Fund
This fund was established in 1996 by Dr. Elden E. "Josh" Billings ’35 to support the needs of the library, including but not limited to book acquisition, technological purchases, periodical subscriptions, and facilities renovations.

Dr. Erna F. Guilfoil Scholarship
This fund was created in 1983 by Dr. Erna Guilfoil Woodard to support sophomore, junior, or senior female students, with first preference given to those intending to become medical doctors and second preference to any other female student.

Dr. Frank J. Rigos Scholarship
The Dr. Frank J. Rigos Scholarship was established in 1956 by Dr. Frank J. Rigos, and later augmented in 2020 by Dr. Rigos's sons, James J. Rigos J.D.'79, Thomas J. Rigos P’99, and Chris Rigos. Awards for the scholarship are made to students with demonstrated financial need, with a donor preference for students with Washington state residency studying natural and life sciences.

Dr. Franklin A. Butterfield, M.D. Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1957 by Admiral Horace B. Butterfield in memory of his father, Franklin A. Butterfield, M.D. The scholarship provides aid to worthy students.

Dr. Franklin and Lucille Thompson Scholarship
The Dr. R. Franklin Thompson and Lucille Thompson Scholarship was established in 1974 to honor Lucille, and renamed in 1999 to celebrate both of the Thompsons.  The award is need-based and recognizes students who are well-rounded in terms of scholastic achievement and extracurricular activities.

Dr. Harry E. Brown and Ruth A. Brown Fund
This fund was established in 1996 by Dr. Harry E. Brown ’32 and his wife, Ruth A. Brown ’36. The gift is unrestricted and is used at the discretion of the trustees.

Dr. Hitoshi T. and Marion Tamaki Endowed Scholarship
This endowed fund was established in 1996 by Dr. Hitoshi T. Tamaki ’40 and his wife, Marion Tamaki. The purpose of this fund is to support students of Japanese-American descent.

Dr. Martin Nelson Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 2013 by gifts from Drs. Robert E. ’63 and Meta Gibbs and Dr. Richard S. ’63 and Shirley M. ’64 Stolarski to support students, with a preference for those majoring in physics.

Dr. Philip R. Fehlandt Memorial Scholarship
The Dr. Philip R. Fehlandt Memorial Scholarship was established in 1973 to provide financial aid on a short-term or emergency basis to students studying in the Department of Chemistry.  Dr. Fehlandt was a faculty member in the chemistry department from 1937 until he retired in 1965, and served as department chair for most of those years.

Dr. Raymond S. Seward and Olive B. Seward Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1982 by Mrs. Olive B. Seward and augmented by friends and relatives. The scholarship supports outstanding and promising students majoring or minoring in physics.

Dr. Rhoda Anton Memorial Scholarship
The Dr. Rhoda Anton Memorial Scholarship was established in 1980 by Rhoda's son, Barry S. Anton, and her daughter-in-law, Maren Stavig. Rhoda instilled in her family a passion for learning and perseverance to pursue one's goals. Awards of this scholarship are made to undergraduate students who return to school after an absence, with preference for students planning a career in some aspect of human services.

Dr. Richard Alan Slater Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1986 by Robert and Margaret Slater in memory of Dr. Richard Alan Slater. The scholarship supports students intending to pursue a career in medicine, along with consideration of financial need.

Dr. Robert D. Sprenger Award in Chemistry
This fund was established in memory of Dr. Robert D. Sprenger. The award provides grants for books and supplies to students majoring in chemistry.

Dr. Robert D. Sprenger Memorial Scholarship
The Dr. Robert D. Sprenger Memorial Scholarship was established by Takamasa Akai ’62, in honor of Professor Sprenger's significant contributions to the fine teaching tradition of the university, particularly his concern for and impact upon students. Preference is given to students who are majoring in chemistry and who are Japanese nationals or of Japanese or Asian descent.

Dr. Russell Brooks Butler Barber Endowed Scholarship
The Dr. Russell Brooks Butler Barber Endowed Scholarship was established in 1976 by Mr. Hugh Trumbull Adams in recognition of Dr. Butler. The purpose of this fund is to support and recognize the talent and academic achievement of students active or interested in communication and theatre arts.

Dr. Warren E. Tomlinson Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1987 by Linn V. Johnson ’66, P’90, P’92 in memory of Puget Sound professor, Dr. Warren E. Tomlinson, to support underrepresented graduates of Mt. Rainier High School in Des Moines, Washington, who demonstrate financial need and are interested in studying foreign or Far Eastern affairs.

E. Earl Hetrick Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1963 by gifts from family and friends of E. Earl Hetrick. The scholarship provides aid to a junior or senior male student in the School of Business Administration.

E.M. Bower Fund
This fund was established in 1997 by E. M. Bower for the purpose of unrestricted institutional support.

Earl Wirth Scholarship
This fund was established in 2003 to support students planning careers in ministerial or missionary areas.

Ed Seferian Scholarship
This fund was established in 1999 through a gift from Bethel J. Crumbaker Schneebeck P’61 through the Schneebeck Foundation in honor of Professor Edward Seferian's retirement from the School of Music. The scholarship supports students who are accomplished performers with outstanding potential, particularly violinists.

Edith G. Bowditch Education Scholarship
The Edith G. Bowditch Education Scholarship was established through the will of Edith's husband, Edgar P. Bowditch. The scholarship seeks to support students majoring in education at the University of Puget Sound.

Edna Mundt Nyberg Elementary Education Scholarship
This fund was established in 1958 by Edna Mundt Nybert, principal of Fauntleroy Elementary School in Seattle, Washington, and superintendent of the Church School of the First Methodist Church in Seattle. The scholarship supports first year students interested in elementary education.

Edward and Dorothy Markusen Scholarship
This fund was established in 1989 by Edward ’42, ’46 and Dorothy Markusen to support students with demonstrated financial need majoring in biology.

Edward C. Carrier Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1955 by Edward C. Carrier. The scholarship supports students with financial need.

Edward G. Goman Memorial Mathematics Award
This fund was established in 1987 with gifts made by Edward Goman during his lifetime and through a bequest, as well as memorials sent in by friends and colleagues. The scholarship supports students intending to pursue a career in mathematics or computer science.

Eger Family Scholarship
This scholarship was established by gifts made between 1998 and 2001 by Carol and Terry Eger, parents of Jeffrey Eger ’01. The scholarship supports students who are US citizens, with preference for students from California.

Eileen Earley Hemstreet Book Award
This fund was established in 1970 by Mrs. Eileen Earley Hemstreet to be gifted to the chairman of the art department for the purpose of making book awards as a memorial to Mrs. Hemstreet.

Eileen Solie Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 2000 by gifts from Mal L. and Janeen Solie McAninch in memory of Janeen's mother, Eileen Spoons Solie, to support students interested in the biological sciences who have demonstrated academic merit and financial need.

Elayna R. Trucker Endowed Scholarship
The Elayna R. Trucker Endowed Scholarship was established in 2010 by Henrietta Cohen and Lee A. Trucker to honor their daughter, Elayna R. Trucker ’08. The scholarship supports students with demonstrated financial need.

Elder Family Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 2015 by Colin ’82 and Julie ’84 Elder P’12, P’15, P’18. Colin and Julie are grateful for the education they and their children received at Puget Sound and aim to provide students the same opportunity in receiving a liberal arts education. Preference is given to students who graduated from a high school in Tacoma, Washington.

Eleanor E. Graham Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 2006 by Eleanor E. Graham ’42 and a gift from her cousin, Elsie P. King, to provide scholarship support to students with demonstrated financial need.

Eleanor Jessel Conti Endowed Memorial Scholarship
This endowed fund was established in 2005 by Eleanor Conti. The scholarship supports students enrolled in the university's dual degree engineering program with demonstrated financial need.

Eliza J. Rummel Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1962 by the then UPS Women's College League (later the UPS Women's League), to honor Eliza J. Rummel. Additional gifts were made in 1972 and 1973 by various friends at the time of Eliza J. Rummel's death. The fund supports students majoring in a medical-related field who show steady academic progress, who are active in extracurricular activities on campus, and who have financial need.

Elizabeth A. Lynn Foundation Scholarship
This fund was established in 1991 by the Elizabeth Lynn Foundation to support science or social science students of color who participate in the Access to College program as students, mentors, or tutors, or to students of color who volunteer time to the university's or the community's diversity programs.

Elizabeth Ann Breysse Scholarship
The Elizabeth Ann Breysse Scholarship was established in 2016 by Sheila and Matthew Breysse P’17 in memory of their daughter, Elizabeth "Liz" Breysse ’17. The fund was created to continue Elizabeth's legacy of excellence, generosity, and service. It is meant to reflect her strong moral compass, her commitment to leadership, and her sense of purpose in making the world a better place.

Elizabeth B. Kelley Scholarship

Ellen Ferguson Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1991 by Ellen L. Ferguson ’72. Ellen was profoundly influenced by her learning and socializing with students of color during the politically charged time she spent at Puget Sound in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Ellen hopes that this scholarship will provide significant opportunities and experiences for students of color.

Ellery Capen Scholarship
This fund was established in 1959 by Dr. Homer Hamner in honor of Professor Ellery Capen, who is credited with being one of the founders of the School of Business and Leadership at Puget Sound. The scholarship provides support to students in accounting, business and leadership, or economics.

Elvira Apdujan Ocaya King Scholarship
This fund was established in 2002 by Linda Norvell King in memory of Elvira Apdujan Ocaya King, who believed that education is one of the greatest gifts a parent can give to a child. The scholarship supports students who are seniors and wish to become teachers, with priority to Filipino students or students of Asian descent.

Erdman Family Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 2017 by Calvin P. and Betsy S. Erdman P’87 to support students with demonstrated financial need, preferably to students who are residents of Hawai’i.

Erna S. Tilley Art Department Fund
This fund was established by a testamentary gift from Erna S. Tilley. The expenditures made from the endowed discretionary fund benefit the Art Department.

Ernest and Marilyn Karlstrom Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 2012 by Ernest and Marilyn Karlstrom to support students enrolled at Puget Sound who are from an underrepresented group and are pursuing an education in biology, chemistry, geology, or physics.

Ernest Goulder Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1968 by Mrs. J. Ellena Goulder. The scholarship supports a pre-ministerial student at Puget Sound or during their first year in seminary.

Esperanza Guzra ’61 Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2009 by Dr. Jacquie Martin, Dr. Michel Rocchi ’71, MA ’72, and friends and admirers of Dr. Esperanza Gurza ’61 following her passing. The fund supports students majoring in French or Spanish with demonstrated financial need.

Esther Griffith Pitz Occupational Therapy Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 2003 to support female students who are studying occupational therapy.

Esther Wagner Endowed Faculty Sabbatical Fund
This fund was established in 2015 through gifts made in honor of Esther Wagner, a long-time English professor at Puget Sound, to support faculty sabbaticals for pre-tenure tenure-track faculty members in the humanities.

Esther Wagner Memorial Scholarship
The Esther Wagner Memorial Scholarship was established in 1989 through gifts made by family, friends, and associates of Professor Emeritus Esther Wagner after her death. It was one of her last wishes that a scholarship be made for an entering freshman who had studied a foreign language for four consecutive years in high school.

Eugene "Doc" and Catherine Mosier Scholarship
This fund was established in 1992 by Eugene "Doc" and Catherine Mosier. The scholarship supports a junior or senior student who plans to major in osteopathic medicine or medicine.

Eva Craig Doupe Scholarship
This fund was established in 2003 by trustee emeritus Franklin Raines in honor of Eva Craig Doupe, a retired Seattle high school teacher, to provide a merit scholarship to students planning to pursue a career in public school teaching.

Eva Keplinger and Bess Turner Fund
This fund was established in 1987 by sisters Eva Keplinger and Bess Turner. The purpose of the fund is to provide yearly educational grants to students whom the university determines to display reasonable academic merit and are unable to provide for their own education expenses.

F&H O’Neel Religion Department Fund
This fund was established in 1985 by Franklin W. and Helena O’Neel in honor of Kathleen and Frank Peterson to provide support to the religion department.

F. Carlton Ball Scholarship
This fund was established in 1972 through gifts from friends and former students and with proceeds of pottery sales held by university students in honor of Puget Sound pottery professor, F. Carlton Ball. The scholarship provides support for students enrolled in the art department who demonstrate financial need.

F. Lowry Wyatt Achievement Award
This fund was established in 1990 through a gift by First Interstate Bank of Washington in honor of F. Lowry Wyatt's 20 year service as director of the bank. The scholarship supports continuing students from underrepresented backgrounds with demonstrated financial need, a high GPA, and a strong commitment to the community through volunteer activity during their attendance at Puget Sound.

F.A. McMillin Memorial Fund
This fund was established in 1990 through gifts made in lieu of flowers at the funeral of Puget Sound geology professor, F.A. McMillin, to support the activities of the geology department.

This fund was established in 1990 by Mrs. Fannye G. Bell. It is awarded at the discretion of Student Financial Services.

This fund was established in 1973 by a bequest from Grace Eylar in memory of her husband and herself. It is awarded at the discretion of Student Financial Services.

This fund was established in 1986 by Agnes Ayers to provide unrestricted scholarship support.

This fund was established in 1981 by the Frances F. Chubb Estate. The scholarship assists talented art students.

Francis H. Brown Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1960 by Mrs. Francis Brown in memory of her husband, Dr. Francis Brown. The scholarship supports a Protestant student who is entering full-time Christian service.

Francis R. Harris Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1985 by Ruth A. Harris in memory of her husband, Francis R. Harris, to support students who intend to work in special education.

Frank A. Rostedt Business Scholarship
This fund was established in 2008 by the Frank A. Rostedt Marital Trust. The scholarship supports students majoring in business.

Frank and Kathleen Peterson Social Sciences Support Fund
This fund was established in by Frank N. and Kathleen A. Peterson. The fund supports the social sciences at Puget Sound.

Frank and Margaret Goodnough Memorial Scholarship
The Frank and Margaret Goodnough Scholarship in Religious Leadership was established in 1995 by a group of Wesley Club Alumni. Both Frank and Margaret worked at the Wesley Foundation program at the University of Washington from 1939 until their retirements in 1962. This award is made to students pursuing a career in ordained or lay ministry, professional church music, or missionary work.

Frank C. Neal – Phi Delta Theta Scholarship
This fund was established in 1961 by Frank C. Neal, a former member of the Board of Trustees. Funds provide scholarships to a member of Phi Delta Theta for academic performance and exhibited leadership; remaining funds are used to support improvements to the Phi Delta Theta House on campus.

Frank Peterson Scholarship
This fund was established by Jan Hendrickson in honor of her advisor and mentor, Dr. Frank Peterson, professor of sociology and assistant academic dean at Puget Sound, to support female first-time college students over the age of 35 with demonstrated financial need.

Franke Tobey Jones Physical Therapy Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2012 by the non-profit organization and public charity, Franke Tobey Jones. Franke Tobey Jones serves as a care retirement community located in Tacoma's historic North End. The scholarship seeks to support students who show an interest in studying geriatric physical therapy and are enrolled in the School of Physical Therapy at the University of Puget Sound.

Fred and Johanna Radmaker Endowed Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established by Fred and Johanna Radmaker to support students in the Master of Arts in Teaching program who want to teach at the elementary level of education.

Fred S. Wyatt Scholarship
The Fred S. Wyatt Scholarship was established in 1976 by Lowry and Winifred Wyatt in memory of Lowry's father, a philanthropist in the field of education. The scholarship is awarded to exceptional students and is renewable.

Freed Mendelson Posse Fund
This fund was established in 2022 by Richard Mendelson P’15 and Joey Freed P’15 to support the Posse Program at the University of Puget Sound.

Friends of Air Force ROTC Scholarship
This fund was established in 1978 and supports those who have served in the military or are dependents of military personnel.

Frost Family Endowed Scholarship
This endowed scholarship was established in 2015 by Daniel "Dan" and Katherine "Kathy" Frost P’17. Dan and Kathy were delighted in the experience and education their daughter, Elizabeth "Liz" Frost ’17, received at Puget Sound. The Frosts seek to provide scholarships to students majoring in theatre arts with additional preference for those with a minor in math or science.

Gail Bouldron Adams Endowed Scholarship
This endowed scholarship was established in 2016 through a gift from the estate of Gail Bouldron Adams ’63. Gail enjoyed her education at the university and felt her education was a key to her success during her career of over thirty years in elementary education. Gail wished to provide assistance for future teachers enrolled in the M.A.T. program and seeking an endorsement in elementary education, with demonstrated financial need.

Galen and Teresa Trail Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 2005 by Galen ’88 and Teresa ’87 Trail. The fund supports a junior or senior majoring in psychology and female students majoring in math or computer science.

This fund was established in 2015 by the Garfinkle Family. Awards are made to a student who is a resident of Hawai’i.

Garrett Eddy Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1971 by Carlotta Page in memory of her fiancé, Garrett Eddy. It is awarded at the discretion of Student Financial Services.

Gary L. Peterson Scholarship
The Gary L. Peterson Scholarship was established in 2004 by friends, family, and former students of Professor Gary L. Peterson in his honor after his retirement. The scholarship provides financial aid for upper-class students majoring in communication. Selection is based on demonstrated financial need, academic excellence, and promise of achievement in the communications field.

George A. and Hazel E. Hodgson Scholarship
This fund was established by Hazel Hodgson in memory of her husband, George. Awards are made to students from the Tri-Cities area with financial need.

George and Carol Ellis Scholarship
This fund was established in 1991 by George ’43 and Carol ’43 Ellis. George and Carol established the scholarship to support students enrolled in the University of Puget Sound School of Business and Public Administration.

George Bayer Eidemiller Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1980 by Nellie K. Eidemiller in memory of her brother, George. It is awarded at the discretion of Student Financial Services.

George Ellis BPA Scholarship
This fund was established in 1991 by the George and Carol Ellis Charitable Trust. The scholarship supports students enrolled in the School of Business and Public Administration.

This endowed scholarship was established in 2010 by a bequest from George F. Harrison ’63. This award supports students with demonstrated need who graduated from a high school in Pierce County, Washington, and are majoring in political economy.

This fund was established by the Jewett family in 1980. The fund is awarded to a professor in the School of Business and Public Administration.

GeorgeJean Erickson ’64 Annual Scholarship
This fund was established in 2021 by Elizabeth Bailey ’64 and Linda Emoto in memory of their sister, GeorgeJean Erickson ’64. The award provides an unrestricted need-based annual scholarship for two students in good academic standing for four years.

This fund was established by Gordon Mackenzie in 2014. The fund provides support to Collins Memorial Library for the supplemental purchase of books which would not be purchased with the library's normal budget.

Gottfried and Mary Fuchs Foundation Scholarship
The Gottfried and Mary Fuchs Foundation Scholarship was established in the early 1980s. The Gottfried and Mary Fuchs Foundation provides support to a number of community organizations. For many years, the University of Puget Sound has received grants for scholarships to assist students from Pierce County high schools.

Grace and Bernard Miller Scholarship
This fund was established by Bernard Miller in 1989. It is awarded at the discretion of Student Financial Services.

Gracia A. Alkema Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2015 by Charles "Terry" Hendrix in honor of his late wife, Gracia Alkema ’68. After graduating from Puget Sound with a degree in history and English, Gracia started her career in publishing as a secretary and ended that successful career 33 years later as founder and president of Corwin Press, a major educational publisher.

The Harborstone Credit Union Scholarship was established in 1998. Harborstone Credit Union is a full-service community credit union that has been helping to meet the dreams and needs of its members for over 42 years by providing a wide variety of financial products, services, and information. In 1991, the company began a program to provide scholarships to help members attend four Washington universities.

Harold and Lena McCamish Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established by Lena Mains McCamish. The fund supports students who have demonstrated financial need and a capacity for leadership, success, and capability.

Harold M. Tollefson Humanities Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1989 by Mrs. Harold Tollefson. The scholarship supports students with a minium GPA of 3.0, with a first preference to male students.

Harriet Rosenzweig Hazleton Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1996 by Elaine Hazleton Bolton ’64. The fund supports female students who demonstrate financial need and who are in their second, third, or fourth year of study.

Harry Keepers Todd Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1986 by Harry Keepers and his wife, Arvilla R. Todd (“Dolly”). The fund is awarded to cover tuition only for attendance at Puget Sound by “worthy young men and boys” who would be unable to attend without such financial aid.

This fund was established by the Brown Family and is to be used to beautify campus.

Harry P. Cain Memorial Public Administration Scholarship
This fund was established in 1979 by Mr. C. Mark Smith ’61 in honor of Harry P. Cain. Awards support undergraduate students in public administration, with preference to those with a breadth of knowledge in the humanities, history, and political science. Recipients are preferred to demonstrate a deep commitment to service to the community and individuals in need, as well as proficiency in public speaking and the courage to publicly defend personal principles.

Hart Family Endowed Acquisition Fund
This fund was established in 2019 by Bruce and Elizabeth Hart P’09 to be used to purchase books for the library.

Hartford and Esther Thune Endowed Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1993 by Esther M. Thune ’34 in her husband’s memory. The fund supports students with demonstrated financial need who are majoring in chemistry, music, or English.

Haruo Kazama Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 2003 by Dr. Haruo Kazama ’66. The fund supports undergraduates at Puget Sound who are studying abroad. Students majoring in humanities, social sciences, arts, or a special interdisciplinary major are given first preference.

Harvey Decker Phi Delta Theta Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 2001 by the Phi Delta Theta Chapter Alumni Baord in honor of Harvey L. Decker IV who attended the University of Puget Sound in 1998 and 1999 before his tragic accidental death at age 19. The fund supports members of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity and is made to the outstanding member of its pledge class, based on academic performance.

Haueisen Family Endowed Scholarship
This endowed scholarship was established in 2016 by Donald C. and Barbara Haueisen P’93. The Haueisens are dedicated to liberal arts education and believe firmly in the life-long value of such an educational experience. They are pleased to be able to assist first-generation college students in attending the University of Puget Sound.

Haugen Endowed Fund
The Haugen Endowed Fund was established in 2019 by Jeffrey Haugen ’80 to fund campus enrichment. The fund provides support for the general maintenance and potential enhancement of campus, including, but not restricted to use of new facility construction or renovations of existing facilities as determined by the Chief Financial Officer.

Havana Bradner Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1981. The scholarship supports students in the field of natural resources including geology, biology, chemistry, physics, and math.

Hayes Charitable Foundation Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2002 by the Haynes Charitable Foundation. The foundation believes that education is the key to personal and professional success. The foundation established education as its primary funding focus and supports the liberal arts mission of the University of Puget Sound.

Hazleton Northwest Native Species Garden Fund
This fund was established in 2006 by Elaine Hazleton Bolton ’64 in memory of her parents, Dr. Lloyd W. and Harriet Rosenzweig ’34 Hazleton. The fund supported the overall construction of the new science building, Harned Hall, and the Hazelton Northwest Native Species Teaching Garden in its courtyard.

This fund was established in 2004 by Joe Harned ’51. The fund supports students with demonstrated financial need who show promise but are not necessarily the top students in terms of grade point average or other academic measurements.

This scholarship was established in 1981 by the Hoffman Construction Company. Support for their local community has been an integral part of the company’s mission since their founding. This award supports students majoring in the sciences with a true interest in careers in science or technology.

Hollis and Eric Dillon Endowed Scholarship

This fund was established in 2010 by Izetta Hendricks Segal ’38 to support students with demonstrated financial need.

J. Dean King Scholarship
This fund was established in 1962 by Reverend J. Dean King to help students with demonstrated financial need.

J. Maxon Reeves Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1972 by friends and family in memory of J. Maxon Reeves. It is awarded at the discretion of Student Financial Services.

J. Truman Wilcox and Suzanne Wilcox Morse Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1982 by the Wilcox family in memory of J. Truman Wilcox ’35 and Suzanne Wilcox Morse ’66. The scholarship supports students majoring in any field who are involved in community and extracurricular activities and are public spirited and civic minded, with preference to students from the Yelm School District or other rural areas.

Jack and Christy Arndt Endowed Scholarship
This fund was created in 2012 by Jack ’72 and Christy Arndt to support students with demonstrated financial need.

Jack Fabulich Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 2012 by Dolores Fabulich in memory of her husband, Jack Fabulich. The fund supports students with demonstrated financial need majoring in business with an international emphasis, a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher, and demonstrated involvement in extra-curricular activities in the Puget Sound community.

Jack L. and Gertrude E. Sprenger Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1997 by Jack ’34 and Gertrude ’35 Sprenger. Awards are made to support students majoring in chemistry, without consideration for financial need.

Jackson Endowed Scholarship
The Trustees of the Kemper Foundation established the Jackson Endowed Scholarship to support an institution that is important to them and to provide financial assistance to deserving students from Colorado and Missouri as they seek to bring a Puget Sound education within financial reach.

Jacqueline Martin Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 2020 through a gift from the estate of Elizabeth Laura Grace Butler to honor her friend, Dr. Jacquie Martin, professor emerita of romance languages and comparative literature. The scholarship is made to support deserving students.

Jahnsen Scholarship
This fund was established in 2003 by Petter Jahnsen ’80 to support promising students with demonstrated finanical need, with a preference to students studying economics.

James and Babbie Morris Endowed Fund for the School of Business and Leadership
This endowed fund was established in 1988 by Jim and Babbie Morris P’75 and renamed in 2004 when the grant criteria were broadened. Expenditures from this endowment are used to provide a richer academic environment in the School of Business and Leadership by increasing the availability of and access to academic resources for students and faculty.

James and Frances Petersen President Discretionary Fund
This gift was created in 1990 by the estate of James and Frances Petersen to provide unrestriced support to the university at the discretion of the president and Board of Trustees.

James F. Morris Endowed Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2004 by Babbie Morris P’75 in memory of her husband, Jim, with a gift from Mr. Morris's estate. The award supports students majoring in business, without consideration for financial need.

James H. Parker Scholastic Fund
This fund was established in 1986 by Phoebe M. Parker in memory of her father, James H. Parker. It is awarded at the discretion of Student Financial Services.

James M. Dolliver National Endowment for the Humanities Distinguished Teaching Professorship
This fund was established in 1996 to honor James M. Dolliver, a retired Washington State Supreme Court Justice who served on Puget Sound's board for 30 years. The fund supports a distinguished teaching professorship which is awarded to a Puget Sound professor every three years.

James N. Cutler Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by James N. Cutler ’74 through gifts made between 1991 and 2003. Awards are made each year to one or more students enrolled in the University of Puget Sound.

James R. and Paul M. Bellamy Liberal Arts Endowed Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1987 by James R. Bellamy, Bruce D. and Elizabeth Kelley, and Mary K. Ellis. The scholarship supports students majoring in English or history, or studying other liberal arts.

James R. Slater Award for Excellence In Music
This fund was established in 1980 by Dr. James R. Slater, a former biology professor at Puget Sound, to support continuing students in the School of Music chosen on the basis of potential and excellence in music.

James R. Slater Phi Kappa Phi Merit Scholarship
This fund was established in 1978 by Dr. James R. Slater, a former biology professor at Puget Sound, to support students in their junior year who are members of Phi Kappa Phi or who have been nominated and accept membership in the organization, for use during their senior year.

James R. Slater Scholarship
This fund was established in 1978 by Dr. James R. Slater, a former biology professor at Puget Sound. The fund supports students with demonstrated academic excellence and either a proven research ability or a potential for research.

James Slater Phi Beta Kappa Scholarship
This fund was established in 1978 by Dr. James R. Slater, a former biology professor at Puget Sound. Recipients are determined by the executive committee of the Delta Chapter of PBK at the University of Puget Sound.

James Slater-Rhodes Scholarship
This fund was established in 1978 by Dr. James R. Slater,  a former biology professor at Puget Sound. It is awarded at the discretion of Student Financial Services.

James T. Chase Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1996 by Eugene ’32 and Lotte ’29 Chase with additional gifts from family and friends in memory of their grandson, James Chase. The award is made each year to a student with demonstrated financial need.

James W. and Frances C. Petersen Presidential Discretionary Fund
This fund was established in 1990 by James W. and Frances C. Petersen. The president of the university may use the fund to meet the university's need that he or she feels is the most important.

Jane Hammer Swope Endowed Lecture Fund for Campus Ministry and Religious Life
This fund was established in 1995 by Major Ianthe Swope in honor of her mother, Jane Hammer Swope. In keeping with her mother’s vision, and recognizing their deeply held religious values as Methodists, Major Swope chose to establish an endowed lectureship at the University of Puget Sound to bring in guest lecturers on the subject of faith, ethics, values, or religion.

Jane Hammer Swope Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1984 by Major Ianthe Swope ’37 in memory of her mother, Jane. The scholarship supports students whose parents are employed full-time in the ministry, mission work, or other Christian service work.

Janet C. Tait Scholarship in Elementary Education
The fund was established in 1982 by Janet C. Tait. The fund supports upperclass students enrolled in the elementary education program.

Jean F. McKenzie Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1957 with gifts from the family and friends and Jean F. McKenzie, and was enriched by B.A. McKenzie & Co., Inc. It is awarded at the discretion of Student Financial Services.

Jean Williams Mazzei Endowed Scholarship
This endowed scholarship was established in 2016 by Sandy Mazzei ’52 in memory of his wife, Jean Williams Mazzei ’56. Jean was a generous volunteer who gave back to her community. Through this scholarship, Sandy intends to continue that generosity and support Jean's commitment to education, especially to history and the understanding of world issues. He hopes this scholarship will inspire future students to study history and, by sharing this knowledge, give back to their community.

Jennie and Garrett Rayno Fine Arts Scholarship

Jennie M. Caruthers Chair in Neuroscience
This fund was established in 2018 by trustee Marvin H. Caruthers P’02 and the Caruthers Family Foundation. The fund supports one tenure line faculty member whose teaching, research, and scholarship focuses on neuroscience.

Jerald King and Arlene Nicholson Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 2001 by Jerald King ’69 and Arlene Nicholson. The fund supports students majoring in mathematics or computer science with demonstrated financial need.

Jessie Trane Burwell Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1958 by Mrs. Owen Jackson in memory of her sister, Mrs. Edgar Burwell. The scholarship supports students interested in the work of the Church, preferably, but not exclusively, from the First Methodist Church of Olympia, Washington.

Joe Iturbi Music Scholarship
This fund was established in 1963 by the University of Puget Sound with proceeds of a benefit performance by Jose Iturbi. The scholarship supports senior students in piano.

Joel T. Hefty Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 2006 by Joel T. Hefty ’86 to support students enrolled at Puget Sound.

John A. Flynn Memorial Fund
This fund was established in 1947 by Mrs. John A. Flynn,  friends, and employees of Hooker Chemical Corporation in memory of John A. Flynn. The scholarship supports an outstanding graduate from a Tacoma high school with a creative and progressive interest in the future development of the field of chemistry.

John A. Gravatt Art and Music Award
This fund was established in 1991 by Dr. Arthur E. Gravatt to assist students majoring in art and music.

John A. and Patricia Whalley Business Leadership Scholarship
This fund was established through a series of gifts beginning in 1986 by John ’64 and Patsy Whalley to provide scholarships to students in the Business Leadership Program.

John and Deanna Oppenheimer Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1997 by John ’80 and Deanna ’80 Oppenheimer P’11, P’14. John and Deanna feel education is the key to a successful personal and professional life.  The John and Deanna Oppenheimer Scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate academic merit and extracurricular involvement.

John and Margaret Cleveland Endowed Scholarship
This fund was created in 2012 by the estate of John and Margaret Cleveland. The scholarship supports students with demonstrated financial need.

John B. Magee Distinguished Professorship
This fund was established in 1987 through a gift from an anonymous donor in honor of three senior faculty members. The fund provides a distinguished professorship of science and values.

John Bartlett McDonald Memorial Fund
This fund was established in 1949 by Mrs. Sophie A. McDonald in memory of her son, John Bartlett McDonald. The scholarship is awarded to a promising student in the field of engineering or to purchase books in the field of pre-engineering.

John Dickinson Regester Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1981 with gifts from friends, former students, and other admirers of Dean John Dickinson Regester. John served as a professor of philosophy at Puget Sound from 1924 to 1965, as Dean of the University from 1936 to 1960, and as the first Dean of the Graduate School from 1960 to 1965. The scholarship is primarily intended to help students who have demonstrated financial need.

John E. Nelson Jr. Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1983 by Jack and Jania Nelson in memory of their son, John Jr., who was killed in a climbing accident on Mount Shuksan. The fund supports a scholarship to a participant in the Pacific Rim Program.

John Fisher Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1996 through a suggestion of John H. Loux and Scott B. Wisner, in the name of John Fisher. The scholarship is awarded to one or more students with demonstrated financial need.

John Fredrick Starbard Endowed Scholarship
This fund was created in 2020 by the estate of John F. Starbard ’85 to support students majoring in English literature, history, or music.

John H. Rudd Memorial Fund
This fund was established in 1947 by family and friends of John H. Rudd. The scholarship provides support for a needy student who is nominated by the president of the university.

John Heinrick Endowed Fund
This fund was established in 1987 by a group of alumni headed by Richard C. Brown ’50 and Donald M. Hoff ’50 in honor of John Heinrick's contributions to the university as a teacher, coach, and administrator. The fund provides annual unrestricted support to the athletic program at Puget Sound at the discretion of the Director of Athletics.

John J. Jensen Endowed Fund
This fund was created in 2018 by the estate of John J. Jensen ’64 to provide equal support for the exercise program, the sports medicine/athletic training program, and the Logger Club.

John Knutsen Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 2003 to support students majoring in business who are studying abroad in a Puget Sound-affiliated program.

John Lantz Faculty Enrichment
This fund was established in 1983 through a gift from an anonymous donor in honor of Professor John Lantz to provide funds for extending a regular sabbatical to a full year at full pay. The fund is to be used by senior faculty to support continued devlopment in teaching and scholarship.

John M. Gilbertson Foundation Scholarship
This fund was established in 1985 by the John M. Glbertson Foundation and is awarded to students majoring in health sciences.

John M. Gilbertson Foundation Trust
This fund was established in 1989 by the John M. Gilbertson Foundation to support first year students in business or science that graduated from public high schools. Students must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 and be a Washington state resident.

John P. Dickinson Scholarship
The John P. Dickson Scholarship was established by Dr. John Dickson P’84, P’01 in 2002. Dr. John P. Dickinson P’84, P’01 began his career as a Professor of Business in 1980. Dr. Dickinson enjoyed teaching and constantly strived to be responsible to student needs.

Joseph Peyton & Roberta Wilson Endowed Scholarship
This endowed scholarship was established in 2003 by Roberta Wilson and friends of Joe Peyton, who made gifts in Joe's memory when he died. The fund supports students with financial need.

John Prins Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 1978 by gifts from multiple donors to honor John Prins, a former Puget Sound professor who also served as the director of the School of Business Administration and Ecomonics on three occasions. The scholarship supports students, based on the recommendation of School of Busienss and Leadership faculty, who are likely to make contributions to the international management community and who demonstrate academic achievement and financial need.

John Ragner and Hazel Hooker Wiborg Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1980 by James and Ann Wiborg in memory of Jim’s parents, John Ragnar and Hazel Hooker Wiborg. The fund provides support for new and continuing undergraduate students at Puget Sound who are US citizens with high scholastic achievement and potential in the liberal arts, natural sciences, physics, business, math, or economics.

John V. and Olga F. Sharp Scholarship
This fund was created in 1990 and by John V. and Olga F. Sharp to support students majoring in music with an opera emphasis.

Joseph M. Drew Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1958 by Joseph M. Drew. The scholarship supports congregational students.

J.R. and Alice B. Ayers Memorial Endowment Fund
This fund was established in 1978 by J.R. Ayers. The fund is used for faculty salaries, for persons on the university staff, and to aid deserving students, preferably those training for the Protestant ministry or foreign missionary service.

This fund was established in 1946 by Mr. John Rudd, the family of J.U. Cassel, and friends of the Ronald Methodist Church of Seattle, in memory of J.U. Cassel. The scholarship provides support to deserving students studying for the ministry.

Judge John A. Shackleford Minority Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1994 by the Honorable Elizabeth Shackleford ’18 in memory of her father. Additional gifts to the fund have been made by the family and friends of Judge John A. Shackleford. Awards are made annually to minority students with financial need.

Judith Rowe Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 2003 to support students enrolled in the Occupational Therapy program.

Julia A. Moore Scholarship
This fund was established in 2010 by Robert B. Moore ’82 in memory of his great-great grandmother, Julia A. Moore, a folk poet known as the “Sweet Singer of Michigan.” The fund supports students with demonstrated need with a preference to English majors.

Julie C. Titcomb Family Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2011 by gifts from the Rodman Foundation in memory of Julie Crommelin Titcomb P’80, who served as a trustee from 1977-1994. The donor prefers that awards are given to incoming first year students with demonstrated financial need who have at least a 3.5 GPA from high school. The scholarship may be renewed from year to year as long as the recipients maintain at least a 3.0 GPA at Puget Sound.

Julie K. Hillers Endowed BLP Fund
This fund was established in 2019 by Joe and Virginia “Val” Hillers P’88 and Ken Hillers to support student enrichment initiatives of the Business Leadership Program, including mentor recruitment, internship support, special events, conference and seminar expenses, or guest speaker honorariums.

June Gasparovich Scholarship

Junia Todd Hallen Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1956 by a bequest from Carl G. Hallen in memory of his wife, Junia Todd Hallen, and added to by gifts of friends of Mrs. Hallen. The fund provides scholarships to aid worthy students.

Justin L. Jaschke and Ann C. Gail Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 2007 by the Lanbourn Charitable Foundation. Awards are made on the basis of need to one or more students enrolled at Puget Sound who are alumni of the Denver School of Science and Technology with demonstrated financial need.

Justin Martin Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1987 by Jacquie Martin in memory of her father. Jacquie was a professor of romance languages and comparative literature for 33 years at the University of Puget Sound. She also established another fund in her mother's memory. The Justin Martin Memorial Scholarship supports students majoring in French and international affairs who demonstrate excellence in both fields.

K. James Davis Chaplain’s Award
The K. James Davis Chaplain's Award for Spirituality and Justice was established in 2010 by the Pacific Northwest Conference of the United Methodist Church and through the many gifts of alumni, parents, friends, faculty, and staff of the University of Puget Sound. Recipients of the award must achieve a 3.0 minimum GPA and demonstrate spiritual/religious leadership while at Puget Sound and participate in social justice activity on campus or in the larger community.

Kant and Borstein Endowed Scholarship for Geology
This scholarship was established by Rishi Kant and Jan Borstein in 2012. Awards are made to students with preference for those majoring in geology with demonstrated financial need and academic merit.

Katherine Cornelia Lee Endowed Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2001 by Charles and Agatha-Sue Lee and other family and friends of their daughter, Katherine Cornelia Lee ’91. Awards are made to a student enrolled in the University of Puget Sound participating in an affiliated study abroad program in France. Preference is given to students enrolled in the program in Dijon, France.

Katherine and Victor Cohen Endowed Fund
This fund was established in 2021 by Benjamin and Joan Cohen P’21 to support strategic initiatives in the areas of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice in the Department of Athletics. The purpose of this fund is to augment the efforts of the Association for Student-Athletes of Color (ASAC) and provide ongoing support for underrepresented student athletes at the University of Puget Sound.

Kathryn H. Stutz Endowed Research Fund
This fund was established in 2021 by Lynn and Kenneth Stutz P’18 in honor of their daughter, Kathryn H. Stutz ’18, to support student participation in summer research at or through Puget Sound, with a preference for student projects involving classical languages, specifically Latin or ancient Greek, whether to learn or improve knowledge of that language, or to conduct research concerning that language.

Kathryn Kennard Vaught Talent Award
This award was established by Kathleen Vaught Farner and Raymond Vaught in 1984 in memory of Kathryn Kennard Vaught. The donors prefer that the scholarship be given to a female orchestral instrumentalist who is a member in good standing of the Beta Delta Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota. The recipient must be studying her instrument for the duration of the award and show the greatest talent, promise, and application as determined by the faculty.

Kathryn I. Rodgers Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1987 by Dr. J. Bruce Rodgers, former professor and director for the School of Music, in memory of his wife, Kathryn, to support students majoring in English who intend to pursue a professional career in writing, who are seniors, and who rank in the top quarter of their class.

Kathy Phibbs Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established after the 1991 death of Kathy Phibbs, daughter of Dr. Philip and Gwen Phibbs. The scholarship is meant to encourage "future Kathys," in that preference is given to a woman who is a voracious reader, has a strong interest in history, and an aggressive commitment to outdoor recreational activities.

Kelsey Lee Offield Endowment in Art and Art History
This endowed fund was established in 2016 by the Offield Family Foundation. Kelsey Offield graduated from the University of Puget Sound in 2006 with a degree in art history and went on to have a successful career in the arts. Kelsey established the fund because she believes that there is no better way of experiencing art than in person. She hopes that the fund will enrich art and art history students' education and provide a direct experience to develop an eye and understanding of nuances that otherwise go unrecognized.

Kemper Presidential Discretionary Fund
This fund was established in 1995 by R. Crosby Kemper in honor of his friendship with President Emerita Susan Reseneck Pierce, to be used where most needed at the discretion of the current president.

Ken and Susan Resneck Pierce Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1997 by President Emerita Susan Resneck Pierce and her late husband, Ken. Deeply dedicated to the value of a liberal arts education, the Pierces have endowed this scholarship as a way of recognizing meritorious Puget Sound juniors and seniors majoring in history or English. The donors prefer but do not require that recipients do substantial work in either pre-modern history or literature.

Ken Stevens Endowed Studio Art Fund
This gift was established in 2017 by a gift from Claire Stevens in honor of her husband, Professor Emeritus of Art Ken Stevens M.F.A.’71, to provide support for the art and art history department with a preference for resources for studio art programs and instruction, including art supplies, equipment, facility enhancements, or curriculum development.

Kenneth R. and Margaret L. Fisher Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1998 by Mr. Kenneth R. Fisher. The fund provides scholarships for students in good academic standing with demonstrated financial need.

KeyBank Diversity Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1996 by KeyBank of Washington. The scholarship provides financial assistance to students of color from the Puget Sound region with an emphasis on the Tacoma area. KeyBank shares the university's commitment to helping minority youth gain the education they need to participate in the global workforce and to succeed in life.

KeyBank Scholarship
This fund was originally established in 1988 through a commitment from Puget Sound Bank and was later assumed by KeyBank. The scholarship provides annual need-based awards to local students with an inclination for business studies.

Kleiner Family Endowed Humanitarian Award
This fund was established in 1999 by Herman ’43 and Barbara Kleiner. The award is made through ASUPS and recognizes the student who most notably exemplifies and fosters the spirit of friendliness and community within the student body, as nominated by faculty, administration, and peers.

Knapp Family Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2014 by Jack ’49 and Jane ’49 Knapp. Two of their children, Carolyn ’78 and Julie ’85, are also Puget Sound alumni. The donors prefer that awards be given to students with demonstrated financial need majoring in business. Additional preference is given to business majors who are members of Sigma Chi fraternity.

Kothari Family Annual Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2020 by Ketan and Sheila Kothari P’23. The fund provides an unrestricted need-based scholarship to a student in good academic standing for four years.

Kriens Fund for Economics
This fund was established in 2012 by the Kriens Family Foundation. The purpose of the fund is to provide resources to increase opportunities for close collaboration between students and faculty members including supporting such initiatives as original scholarship/research, acquisition of new research materials for students, support of specialized training, student attendance at academic conferences, and sponsorship of guest academic speakers at Puget Sound. While the donor allows the purpose of the fund to be flexible in supporting a variety of research within economics, first preference consideration for funding is given to supporting initiatives which seek solutions and outcomes that promote land management and conservation.

Kriens Fund for the Posse Scholars Program
This fund was established in 2018 through a grant from the Vita Fund, an advised fund of the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, at the recommendation of the Kriens Family to provide program endowment support for the Posse Scholars Program.

Kristin Nygaard Memorial Fund for Computer Science
This fund was established in 2014 by Karen Van Dusen and Joel Spiegel P’14. The fund is named for Kristen Nygaard, a Norwegian computer scientist and political activist, whom Karen and Joe considered a friend, mentor, and inspiration. The restricted fund supports the computer science department in the recruitment and retention of tenure-line faculty, to increase the number of courses offered by the computer science department, and to enhance the development of the computer science curriculum.

LaChapelle Endowed Posse Fund
This fund was established in 2018 through a gift from the ChenSteinO’MalleySven Foundation to provide resources to support students who are enrolled at Puget Sound through the university's partnership with the Posse Foundation.

Lance Palmer Scholarship Fund for Equity and Justice
This fund was established through gifts made between 2001 and 2005 by Lance E. Palmer ’85, J.D.'88. Next to his family, Lance values education above all else and believes that most social ills will be conquered if every child has the opportunity to obtain an education. His endowment of a scholarship for students conducting research on issues of global or domestic inequality or injustice is his way of giving back and empowering others to fight for social equality and justice.

Latinos Unidos Endowed Leadership Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2016 by members of Latinos Unidos and through the generosity of alumni, parents, and friends of the university. The student representatives who form Latinos Unidos established this endowed scholarship in an effort to provide original resources to benefit underrepresented students that struggle financially to attend the University of Puget Sound.

Laura H. Cunningham Fund

Laurence O. Elvins Jr. Scholarship
This scholarship was initially established through a bequest from Mr. Laurence O. Elvins, Jr. with additional contributions from family and friends. Throughout his life, Mr. Elvins valued innovation and creativity in business coupled with plain hard work and a strong commitment to the community. His contribution to the university is intended to encourage those who view education not as an end, but as a beginning.

Leon E. Titus Business Scholarship
This scholarship was established through a bequest from the Estate of Doris T. Titus. Awards are made each year to students studying business at the University of Puget Sound.

Leonad Howarth Fund
This fund was established in 1927 by a bequest from Mr. Leonard Howarth, a Tacoma industrialist. The fund supports deserving students qualified as assistants and readers to faculty members or library helpers in the Division of Natural Science.

Leonard G. Jacobsen Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1965 by Mrs. Leonard Jacobsen and friends in memory of Leonard G. Jacobsen, professor of piano forté at the University of Puget Sound. The scholarship supports a promising pianist pursing a career as a performer and/or teacher.

Leroy and Beatrice Bainard Business Memorial Scholarship

Leroy and Verda Sherman Endowed Scholarship
This endowed fund was established in 2014 by Leroy ’62 and Verda Sherman. Leroy has always been grateful for the education he obtained at Puget Sound and, with this scholarship, he and Verda are pleased to be able to support future Puget Sound business students.

Leslie C. Motz Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 1999 by the estate of Leslie C. Motz to support students with demonstrated finanical need and a GPA of 3.0 or higher who are planning a career in accounting, preferably public accounting.

LGBT Leadership Scholarship
This scholarship was established with a combined gift made by several Puget Sound alumni in celebration of an LGBT reunion held in 2000. The purpose of the scholarship is to complement the successful academic experiences for students who demonstrate leadership and involvement in recognized LGBT student organizations at the University of Puget Sound.

Lilla Baarslag Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1995 by Alice Spitzer, daughter of Lilla Marie Sargent Baarslag. Preference for recipients of the scholarship goes to females who are returning to complete a degree and who are in the Master of Arts in Teaching program.

Lillis Scholars Program
The Lillis Scholars Program was established in 2007 by the Lillis Foundation of Castle Rock, Colorado. Gwendolyn and Charles Lillis, parents of Puget Sound alumna Jessica Baker Isaacs ’05 and trustees of the foundation, both hold Ph.Ds. and value education very highly. To recognize academic excellence and encourage intellectual independence, the Lillis Foundation Scholarship is awarded to a limited number of entering first year students each academic year who demonstrate exceptional achievement in high school and the promise of continued outstanding performance during their undergraduate years and beyond. The award is highly competitive, as it is one of the university's most prestigious scholarships.

Linda and David Wilson Endowed Fund for Posse
This fund was established in 2021 by a gift from the Knossos Foundation on behalf of Linda ’75 and David Wilson P’12 to provide resources to support students who are enrolled at Puget Sound through the university’s partnership with the Posse Foundation.

Lind-VanEnkevort Fund for Mathematics and Computer
This gift was established in 2011 by Lanbourn Foundation funded by trustee emeritus Justin L. Jaschke ’80 and Ann Gail to enhance professional development for faculty in mathematics and computer science, and to enrich the department's curriculum.

Lloyd L. and Florence Zoe Grant Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1998 through estate gifts made by Lloyd and Zoe Grant P’52, P’57. The scholarship supports students majoring in science, mathematics, computer science, engineering, business, Occupational Therapy, or Physical Therapy, or who are enrolled in a pre-medical or pre-dental program. First preference is given to students graduating from Puyallup High School District, with a second preference to other students from Pierce County.

Logger Baseball AV Expendable Fund
This fund was established in 2022 by Lawrence and Lisa Blocher to provide support for audio/video improvements for Logger Baseball.

Lois T. Lundquist Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 2003 by Mr. and Mrs. Paul Lundquist in memory of Paul’s mother, Lois Timmen Lundquist, to support first-year students with a GPA of 2.7 or higher who are planning to major in elementary education, with a preference to Tacoma-Pierce County residents.

Lon and Carolyn Hoover Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 2000 by Lon ’52 and Carolyn Hoover P’88. The fund supports one or more students with financial need.

Lora Bryning Redford Lectureship in Archaeology
This fund was established in 2000 by brothers Scott, Bruce, and Kent Redford, in honor of their mother, Lora Bryning Redford ’37. In 1945, Lora became one of the first women to be admitted as professional diplomats into the Foreign Service. The purpose of the Lora Bryning Redford Lectureship in Archaeology is to bring distinguished lecturers to the Puget Sound campus to address subjects in archaeology.

Lorraine Nelson Scholarship
This fund was established in 1988 by Lorraine P. Nelson to support students enrolled in the voice department of the School of Music.

Loucks Family Music Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 2021 by Lynette K. ’91 and William J. Loucks P’20 to provide support for students enrolled at the University of Puget Sound who are accomplished performers with outstanding ability, as recognized by the School of Music faculty, with a preference for students participating in the Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Orchestra, and Wind Ensemble.

Lowry Wyatt Scholarship
This fund was established in 1996 through a gift from the estate of Lowry Wyatt, chairman emeritus of the Puget Sound Board of Trustees, with additional gifts made in Lowry's memory. The scholarship provides support for students based on need and at the university's discretion.

Lt. Col Benjamin ’61 & Eleanor Bedzis Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 1997 by Lt. Col. Benjamin ’61 and Eleanor Bedzis. The scholarship provides support to students who demonstrate academic merit with a GPA of 3.0 or higher and demonstrated financial need.

Luce Asst. Professor of Muslim Societies in Southeast Asia
This fund was established in 2007 by the Luce Fund for Asian Studies to fund a new tenure-line position at Puget Sound.

Lucille M. Kelly Scholarship
The fund was established in 1982 by a bequest from Lucille M. Kelly. The scholarship is awarded to a student with 3.0 grade point average.

Lumbermen's Scholarship
This fund was established in 1984 by Lanoga Corporation to support students with an outstanding leadership record who have a GPA or 2.5 or higher.

Lyle S. Shelmidine Memorial Fund
This fund was established in 1966 by a bequest from Dr. Lyle S. Shelmidine, professor of Far Eastern history at the University of Puget Sound. The fund was used to furnish a Middle East reading room in Collins Memorial Library to house the Middle East books, rugs, and artifacts from the collection of Dr. Shelmidine.

Lynette Cronenwett Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1990 by William and Rosemary Cronenwett in memory of their daughter, Lynette, to support students with financial need participating in the 1993-94 Pacific Rim/Asian studies program.

Lynn M. Swedberg Endowed Scholarship
This fund was created in 2014 by the estate of Lynn M. Swedberg to support students majoring in Occupational Therapy.

Mabel A. and Richard K. Wasson Scholarship
Original support for this fund was established through gifts made by Wasson family members and friends. In 1985, funds from two other Wasson scholarship accounts were merged to create the Mabel A. and Richard K. Wasson Scholarship, which provides support to accounting or business students.

Mack and Vernessa Hogans Scholarship
This fund was established in 1997 by Mack L. Hogans to help fund student scholarships for deserving African American students or other students of color.

MacMillam Scholarship for Entrepreneurial Development
This scholarship was established in 1994 by Cargill "Cam" MacMillan III ’82. The fund supports academically meritorious upper-class students who demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit, ability, and drive.

MacPherson Family Endowed Posse Fund
This fund was established in 2021 through gifts from The Joe MacPherson Foundation on behalf of Anne MacPherson ’79 to support students who are enrolled at Puget Sound through the university's partnership with the Posse Foundation.

Mansfield-Ficke-Bogue-Wagenblast Scholarship
This fund was established in 1980 by Mrs. Evelyn Mansfield Fiske Bogue in memory of her mother, May Mansfield, her daughter, Harriet Ann Fiske Wagenblast, and herself. The scholarship supports students with financial need, with first preference to students majoring in music.

Mamie M. Hungerford Piano and Voice Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1967 by family and friends of Mrs. Mamie Hungerford P’41, P’47, P’57. Mamie's husband, Arthur S. Hungerford ’13, and their three children were all affiliated with Puget Sound. The scholarship supports students studying piano and/or voice at the University of Puget Sound.

Marcelle Martin Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1987 by Jacquie Martin in memory of her mother. This fund supports one or more graduating or continuing students at the University of Puget Sound who are majoring in French Studies and who have taken courses or have participated in and demonstrated excellence in music, art, or theater.

Marcia Shannon Memorial Book Fund
This fund was established in 1978 by the Zonta Club of Tacoma. The fund supports library acquisitions for the Women's Studies program.

Margaret Martin Soha Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 2000 was established by John Soha and his sons in memory of his wife and their mother, Margaret Martin Soha, to assist students with financial need who have special circumstances.

Margarets’ Scholarship
This fund was established in 1944 by a gift from J. Clifford Haley in memory of three members of the Haley family named Margaret. The scholarship supports a student exhibiting financial need, strong academic performance, character, and Christian service.

Marie Helmer Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established through a bequest and gifts by Marie A. Helmer in 2007 to provide support for students with financial need.

Marie Usher Scholarship
This fund was established in 1999 by Ronald ’57 and Nancy Usher in memory of Ronald's mother, Marie, to provide merit-based awards to juniors or seniors planning a career in service to their local communities in non-profit organizations or non-elective government service at the city or county level.

Marjorie Heritage Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1967 by Mr. Clark Heritage in memory of his wife, Marjorie Heritage. The scholarship provides aid to worthy students in the School of Music.

Marjorie J. Baker Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1991 by Elbert H. Baker II in honor of Marjorie Jeffries Shanaman Baker. The purpose of this fund is to assist the university in achieving its long-range educational objectives by providing financial aid resources to deserving students from Tacoma and Pierce County, Washington, without regard to class year, sex, racial and ethnic background, or religious convictions.

Marjorie Jenkins Mann Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2001 by from Marjorie Jenkins Mann. This scholarship gives first preference to students at the University of Puget Sound majoring in Occupational Therapy and second preference to those majoring in Physical Therapy. In the event that no students are enrolled in either of those programs, the scholarship shall be awarded to undergraduate students who intend to pursue careers in the health professions.

Mark Mattler Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2007 by Paul Picardo and Beth Mattler Picardo in honor of Beth's younger brother, Mark Mattler. The purpose of this scholarship is to benefit students who show promise in their respective majors on the basis of need.

Marshall Campbell Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 2012 by L. Marshall Campbell to support students in good academic standing and entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year, with a preference to support Christian students with interest in pursuing a career involved in ministry work which may include pastoral, youth, music, service, or missionary work. First preference is given to a student from the United Methodist Church; otherwise second preference is given to students from other Christian communities.

Marshall Family Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 2017 by a gift from Robert (Bob) and Margaret (Mardie) Marshall P’12, P’17 to support first-year students with demonstrated financial need who are residents of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, North Dakota, or South Dakota.

Martin, Martin, and Gurza Scholarship
This fund was established in 2020 by Elizabeth Laura Grace Butler to support students enrolled at Puget Sound.

Martin Nelson and John Lantz Faculty Advancement
This fund was established in 2004 by an anonymous donor. The purpose of this fund is to provide funds for extending a regular sabbatical to a full year at full pay, assist with expenses involved in spending all or part of a sabbatical year away from the University of Puget Sound, and may be occasionally used to support undergraduate students with summer research.

Mary and Chapin Foster Scholarship
This fund was established in 1972 by Mary H. Foster and Chapin Foster, who was a trustee at the university. The scholarship assists worthy students who intend to enter the ministry.

Mary Ann Nelson Exemplary Book Fund
This fund was established in 1987 by Mary Ann Nelson to fund the purchase of books to build a collection of children's literature at Collins Memorial Library.

Mary Anne Palo Grgay Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1999 by Neil M. "Mac" and Mary Anne Gray. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide the stepping stones to a successful personal and professional life for one female undergraduate who plans to apply to the Puget Sound M.E.D. or M.A.T. program after graduation, with preference given to members of sororities.

Mary E. Liggett Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1945 by Mary E. Liggett to the Pioneer Methodist Church, Walla Walla, Washington, for foreign missionary purposes. The scholarship provides necessary assistance to worthy young people who have decided to give their lives to the service of the Church in the foreign field.

Mary K. and John Long Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1998 by Mary K. Long in memory of her husband, John Long, to provide financial aid to one or more students.

Mary Lee and Ray Utz Textbook Scholarship
This fund was established in 2003 to assist students in purchasing books, art supplies, and other necessary materials.

Mary Louise Curran Scholarship
This fund was established in 1987 by a gift from an anonymous donor in honor of Mary Louise Curran to support female students enrolled at Puget Sound, with first preference given to students with upper-class standing and majoring in business and public administration.

Matelich Scholarship
This fund was established in 2011 by George E. ’78 and Susan E. Matelich. The scholarship is among the University of Puget Sound's most prestigious honors and is awarded annually to students in each entering class who exhibit exceptional energy and drive, high levels of academic and personal achievement, and demonstrated capacity for sustained intellectual and professional growth.

Matthews Award for Teaching Excellence
This fund was created in 1987 by Patricia L. and Olen Paul Mattews to support full-time faculty members with excellence in teaching.

Matthew “Rick” Pratt Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1993 by the friends and loved ones of Matthew "Rick" Pratt in his honor. This scholarship supports one or more students at University of Puget Sound, with first preference going to a minority student majoring in business who has participated in the PUSH/EXCEL Program.

Matthew Norton Clapp Visiting Artists Endowment
This fund was established by Matthew Norton Clapp in 1960 in memory of his father, Matthew Norton Clapp Sr. The purpose of this fund is to enable the university to bring annually to campus accomplished and prominent playwrights, directors, scholars, and practitioners of the performing arts for short, focused teaching residencies.

McCormick Student Research Grants in the Sciences
This fund was established in 1998 and benefits any currently enrolled student at the University of Puget Sound conducting or planning to conduct research in physics, chemistry, biology, geology, or mathematics and computer science.

McGill Family Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1998 by Dr. and Mrs. Charles M. McGill in honor of their two sons, C. Robert McGill and Kenneth McGill. This scholarship benefits one or more student(s) enrolled at the University of Puget Sound majoring in mathematics.

McKeever Family Scholarship
This fund was established in 1990 through gifts from Mary McKeever in honor of her family. The scholarship supports students with demonstrated high potential, a purpose in life other than a substantial salary, high moral principles, and a sense of responsibility, who would be willing to help fund scholarships for others later in life.

Mellam Family Foundation Minority Scholarship
This fund was established in 1998 with a gift from the Mellam Family Foundation intiated by Tracy Rogers ’80 to provide scholarship support to students of color.

Mellam Student Research Grants in Natural Sciences
This grant was established in 2008 and is designed to support cooperative research projects between Puget Sound faculty and currently enrolled students at the University of Puget Sound planning to conduct research in physics, chemistry, biology, and geology.

Mellon Foundation Civic Discourse Project
This fund was established in 2007 by the Mellon Foundation to support "Civic Discourse in Academic Communities," a project designed to increase academic engagement in residential life.

Mentor J. Perdue, Elaine Ramsey, and Jerry Ramsey Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1958 by Mentor J. Perdue. This scholarship benefits one or more superior sophomore, junior, or senior students in need of financial aid and majoring in economics, physical sciences (physics, chemistry, geology), or any of the majors within the School of Business or Public Administration.

Michael Amend ’86 Annual Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2021 by Michael W. Amend ’86. This need-based scholarship benefits a student in good academic standing.

Michael L. Chandler Sr. Endowed Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 2007 by Michael L. Chandler Jr. and Grace Chandler in memory of Michael L. Chandler Sr. to support enrolled students with preference for students with an interest in business and/or entrepreneurial pursuits, particularly with an interest in either foreign language, study abroad programs, and/or community service.

Michael Patrick Madden Endowed Research Fund
This research fund was established in 2015 by A. Susan Owen and Peter C. Ehrenhaus in honor of Michael Patrick Madden. The purpose of this fund is to provide support for the university's summer research program for student(s) with interest in social justice issues as they relate to nationalism and international conflict.

This fund was established in 2018 by Mike Dunkle ’90 and additional gifts from Mike's family and friends to support student awards for participation in summer research with a preference in physics projects and second preference for natural science projects.

Mike Veseth International Political Economy Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2015 by David Jenkins ’79 in honor of Mike Veseth. This scholarship benefits one or more students enrolled at the University of Puget Sound majoring in International Political Economy.

Mildred Birkeland Memorial Art Book Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1982 in order to help one art student with the price of books.

Mildred P. Whitehouse Scholarship
This fund was established in 1951 by Mildred P. Whitehouse and is awarded to needy and worthy students selected by the president of the university.

Milton W. Valois Endowed Scholarship
This fund was created in 2014 by Teresa A. Valois to support students enrolled at Puget Sound pursuing an education in occupational therapy.

Minnie White Fund
This fund was established in 1941 and provides scholarship support for a student with financial need nominated by the president of the university.

Miyawaki Occupational Therapy Scholarship
This fund was established in 2011 by the Miyawaki Foundation to provide support for students from Hawai’i who are enrolled in the School of Occupational Therapy at the University of Puget Sound.

Morice William France ’66 Annual Scholarship
The scholarship was established in 2020 by Shauna France in honor of Morice William France ’66. This need-based scholarship benefits a student in good academic standing.

Mr. and Mrs. Hilding Lindberg Scholarship
This fund was established in 1966 and provides a scholarship to be awarded annually by the president of the university to a deserving student.

Museum of Natural History - Laurence A. Johnson Fund
This fund was established in 1951 by Laurence A. Johnson with additional contributions by Murray L. Johnson, M.D., chairman of the board and curator of mammals, in memory of his father, Laurence A. Johnson. The fund was further supplemented by gifts from Professor Gordon D. Alcorn, director of the museum and curartor of birds, and others interested in the support of the museum. The fund provides scholarship aid for needy students in biology with peculiar ability to do special work for the museum support.

Myra E. Dupertuis Prize Fund
This fund was established in 1947 by Samuel Dupertuis of the class of 1914 and former professor of French at Boston University, in memory of his wife, Myra E. Dupertuis. The fund provides a prize for an outstanding senior student of French who has not studied abroad.

Nat and Marian Rogers Professor in Applied Management
This fund was established in 1985 to endow a professorship that integrates the practical aspects of the "real world" of business with the undergraduate academic program in business education. This role gives small businesses and corporations access to faculty members who can provide expert consultation and "hands-on" management of special projects.

Nathalie and Marty Simsak Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2002 by Nathalie and Marty Simsak. This scholarship benefits one or more low-income freshman student(s) who have demonstrated financial need and strong performance in high school.

Nathaly C. Walker Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2015 by John P. Walker in honor of his late wife, Nathaly C. Walker. This scholarship benefits one or more students who have demonstrated financial need and are majoring in studio art or art history.

Neil D. Gray Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1999 through the combined gifts of Neil M. and Mary Anne Gray, George and Nilmah Mills, Craig and Claudia Fransen, and Neil D. and Nilmah Gray. This scholarship benefits students from any public or private Pierce County high school, who have demonstrated academic merit and indicate interest and/or declare a major in business.

Nettie Lowther ’61 Endowed Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 2006 to honor Nettie Lowther ’61, the wife of Professor of Geology Stewart Lowther. The scholarship supports students enrolled in the Puget Sound Master of Arts in Teaching program who have undergraduate degrees in science and who plan to teach in elementary school.

Neukom Family Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2001 by William H. Neukom to recruit, retain, and graduate students of color with demonstrated financial need and academic talent who could not otherwise afford a Puget Sound education.

Nicholas Vasilius IPE Endowment Fund
This fund was established in 2009 by the Kaimas Foundation. The fund further augments faculty development resources as a means of further enriching and distinguishing a Puget Sound education.

Nixeon Civille Handy Poetry Prize
This fund was established in 1982 by friends and family of Nixeon Civille Handy P’65, in recognition of the her outstanding contributions made through her poetry and creative writing. The fund supports students to encourage and recognize outstanding student writing.

Nola DeCaro Tresslar ’63 Endowed Scholarship
The fund was established in 2019 by Nola DeCaro Tressler ’63. It is awarded at the discretion of Student Financial Services.

The fund was established in 2019 by Nola DeCaro Tressler ’63. The fund provides unrestricted support to the art and art history department.

Nor Height Nor Depth Scholarship
This fund was established in 1975 by classmates and friends in memory of Philip Burdick, Susan Burwell, Nina Cargill Engebretsen, Karen Helene Moniot, Richard J. Pfeffer, and Eric Spurell, students who were killed in an avalanche on Mt. St. Helens and in a diving accident. It is awarded at the discretion of Student Financial Services.

Norman and Anna Wirth Scholarship
This fund was established in 1962 by Norman Wirth to assist students planning to enter the ministry or for students with Christian interests.

Norman C. Jacox and Karen Klug Jacox Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 2003 by Norm Jacox ’67 and Karen Klug. The fund supports students majoring in business.

Norman E. Robbins Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1985 from the estate of Norman E. Robbins. It is awarded at the discretion of Student Financial Services.

North End Shakespeare Club
This fund was established in 1955 by a gift from the Northend Shakespeare Club in memory of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Heustin. The fund is used for the purchase of books by or about William Shakespeare.

Norton Clapp Arete Award

Noyes D. Tillotson Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1968 by Noyes D. Tillotson. The scholarship supports deserving students needing financial assistance in their undergraduate work.

O ka 'ike ka mana Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2001 by Barbara Tabbert Kildow and Robert Kildow. This scholarship benefits one or more Hawaiian students enrolled at the University of Puget Sound with demonstrated financial need and maintenance of a 3.5 GPA.

Ollie J. Tobler Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1964 by Ollie J. Tobler. The fund provides scholarships and/or fellowships for students with financial need.

Olson Physics Scholarship
This fund was established in 2000 by Marc ’87 and Jean Olson. It is awarded to students with demonstrated financial need, merit (GPA), and a major or intention to major in physics.

Olson Summer Science Research Award
This fund was established in 2000 by Marc ’87 and Jean Olson. It is awarded to students with financial needs who are majoring in physics and are participating in a summer research project.

One More Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2014 by members of the University of Puget Sound Black Student Union in collaboration with African American Studies, and made possible through the generosity of alumni, parents, and friends of the university. This scholarship benefits one or more students who are first or second year students with demonstrated financial need, good academic standing, and are members of an underrepresented population on campus.

Oscar T. and Olivann Hokold Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2017 by the Oscar T. and Olivann Hokold Foundation to benefit one or more students enrolled at the University of Puget Sound who are from Peirce County.

Pacific Rim Alumni Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1996 by alumni and friends of the Pacific Rim Program in honor of Robert G. and Aileen Robertson, Suzanne W. Barnett, and Delmar Langbauer. This scholarship benefits four students enrolled in the Pacific Rim Program who exemplify the values of enthusiasm for diversity, openness of spirit, willingness to embrace differing views and traditions, compassionate support of others, generosity of spirit, excellent scholarship, critical thinking, the ability to convey ideas in a provocative manner, and positive action for the betterment of the community.

Palenchar Family Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 2002 by James Palenchar and Lizabeth Lynner. This scholarship provides support for students majoring in music.

Pamplin Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1990 by Amy Pamplin and benefits members of the Alpha Phi sorority who want to continue their education at Puget Sound but are financially unable to do so.

Patricia Anderson Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 2019 by Patricia Anderson ’88. It is awarded at the discretion of Student Financial Services.

Patricia Coatsworth Slaughter Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1997 by Ralph Coatswroth in memory of his daughter, Patricia Coatsworth Slaughter ’42. This scholarship supports student with character, academic ability, and financial need.

Paul and Beverly Heuston Scholarship
This fund was established in 1994 by Paul ’43 and Beverley Heuston P’76, P’78. The fund supports one or more junior or senior students entering the medical profession.

Paul M. Bellamy Music Scholarship

Paul Schuett Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1951 by Mary E. Schuett in memory of her son, Paul Schuett. The scholarship supports worthy students with a preference for young men studying for the ministry. Recipients are to be selected by the president of the university.

Paulette Aspinall-Stanley Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 2003 by Paulette Aspinall-Stanley, M.B.A.’83. The scholarship supports a junior or senior who has demonstrated financial need.

Peggy Pritchard Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2009 by Peggy Pritchard ’72 in order to support students with financial need who are majoring in International Political Economy.

Peloso Family Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 2020 by Monica and Frank Peloso P’21, P’23. It is awarded at the discretion of Student Financial Services.

Perry McClain Endowed Scholarship
This fund was estalished in 2019 by Perry McClain ’79. The scholarship supports transfer students with demonstrated financial need in completing their undergraduate education.

Peter ’60 and Maria Rippe Endowed Fund
This fund was established in 2017 by Peter ’60 and Maria Rippe. The fund provides support to the African American Studies Program.

Peter and Susan Misner Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1978 by Peter and Susan Misner to support students with financial need.

Peter Finnigan Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1979 by Maurice and Dayton Finnigan as a memorial scholarship for their father. It is awarded at the discretion of Student Financial Services.

Peter K. Wallerich Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1999 by Peter K. Wallerich. This scholarship benefits two junior and two senior students who have demonstrated interest and success in the natural sciences, pre-medicine, or other health science coursework.

Peter V. ’85 and Susan R. Bishop Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2014 by Peter V. and Susan R. Bishop and benefits students with financial need.

Peterson Family Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 2019 by K. Jean Peterson ’70 in honor of her parents, Maxine H. and Richard N. Peterson. The scholarship supports students pursuing a degree with an attention to intersectionality within the humanities or social sciences.

Philip G. Bowman BLP Scholarship
This fund was established in 1987 by Philip G. Bowman ’43.  The scholarship supports students in need who are in the Business Leadership Program or who are studying business or Politics & Government. The scholars may demonstrate potential but not necessarily high achievement.

Philip H. and M. Kelley Ashby Religion Fund
This fund was established in 1992 by Philip ’38 and Kelley Ashby. The fund is awarded to a faculty member from the Department of Religion and supports a semester's academic leave, research expenses, travel, or whatever supports the scholarly advancement of the faculty member receiving the support. While receiving the stipend, the faculty member shall be known as the Ashby Scholar.

Philip M. Phibbs Endowed Professorship
This fund was established in 1983 in honor of President Philip Phibbs’ tenth year at University of Puget Sound. The fund supports a professorship in Politics & Government.

Physical Therapy Honored Faculty Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1999 by friends and family in honor of Lynn Chandler, Shelby Clayson, and Mary Tatarka. This scholarship benefits one or more graduate students at the School of Physical Therapy who are interested in pediatric neurology and research.

Pigott Family Endowed Science Research Fund
This fund was established in 2013 by Mark Pigott, KBE. The fund provides support for Puget Sound faculty members in the sciences to conduct research in their fields of study, including supporting the purchase of equipment necessary to the pursuit of scientific research.

Porter R. Taylor Jr. Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1984 by P. Ross Taylor III in honor of Porter R. Taylor Jr. and supports one or more students who are majoring in political economy with demonstrated financial need.

Posse Foundation Program Scholarship
This fund was established in 2018 and provides support fo the Posse Program at Puget Sound.

President’s Excellence in Teaching Award
This fund was established by Harold ’60 and Jacque ’61 Eastman in 1997 to support and recognize faculty members at University of Puget Sound who demonstrate exceptional teaching skills independent of accomplishment in scholarship.

Pros Ta Akra Student Investment Fund
This fund was established in 2015 by Ken and Rosemary Willman in honor of the service of President Emeritus Ron Thomas and his wife, Mary Thomas,to the University of Puget Sound. This fund benefits students who are eligible for financial aid based on demonstrated need.

Puget Sound CKC Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 2017 by Andrew Moley P’20 and Cathy Crane Moley P’20. The scholarship provides support for students with demonstrated financial need.

Puget Sound Energy BLP Scholarship
This fund was established in 1987 by Washington Natural Gas (now Puget Sound Energy). The scholarship supports a student enrolled in the Business Leadership Program.

This scholarship is funded by the Puget Sound Fund and awarded at the discretion of Student Financial Services.

Puget Sound School of Music Endowment
This scholarship was established in 2014 by Sidney and Janet Whaley. This scholarship will support current and future students and faculty in their work and enhance the university's ability to address undertakings related to practice, teaching, performance, and dissemination of music.

PACCAR Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1981 by the PACCAR Foundation. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial support to students of high academic ability.

R. Ronald Rau and Maryjane Uhrlaub Rau Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 2007 by Ronald Rau ’41, Hon.’41 and his wife Maryjane Uhrlaub Rau. Scholarships are awarded to students on the basis of academic merit without regard to financial need.

This fund was established in 2002 by Ronald Rau ’41, Hon.’41 and his wife Maryjane Uhrlaub Rau. The fund supports students who are engaged in physics research.

Rae D. and Julia W. Felt Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1983 by Rae D. and Julia W. Felt. The scholarship supports students with financial need, superior motivation to learn and succeed, and scholastic performance of a higher caliber.

Rainier Brewing Company Scholarship
This fund was established in 2003 by the Rainier Brewing Company in honor of Edwin S. Coombs Jr. This fund benefits students pursuing graduate studies at the University of Puget Sound.

Raj Kumari Kukreja Expendable Award Fund
This fund was established in 1996 by Professor Sunil Kukreja and his wife, Laura Kiely Kukreja, to provide support for students majoring in Asian studies who are engaged in a research project on some facet of Indian culture.

Ray and Dorothy Northcutt Scholarship
This fund was established in 1992 by Ray H. Northcutt to support students who are planning a career in Christian ministry.

Raymond and Margaret Powell Scholarship
This fund was established in 1984 by Raymond L. Powell to support students in their junior year who are planning to teach in public schools.

Raymond E. and Leola B. Cook Memorial Fund
This fund was established by Raymond Cook in 1973. The scholarship provides assistance to worthy students planning to enroll in full-time Christian work.

Raymond Proudfoot Memorial Fund
This fund was established in 1961 by Sarah Alice Proudfoot and her children in memory of her husband and their father, the Reverend Raymond Proudfoot, Direct Superintendent, Tacoma District, Pacific Northwest Confrence of the Methodist Church. The scholarship supports worthy students, preferably students planning to enter the Methodist ministry.

Rebecca A. Pettit Endowed Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2004 by Robert and Janet Pettit in honor of Rebecca Pettit. This scholarship is intended to benefit one or more students, regardless of financial need.

Rebecca Haase Stymelski Scholarship
This fund was created in 1986 by Rebecca Haase Stymelski to support students with academic promise and excellence and demonstrated financial need, with first preference given to students majoring in German and second preference to students majoring in another foreign language.

Reid-Ethan Annual Scholarship
This fund was established in 2020 by Jill M. Grossman P’21 to provide scholarship support to a student with good academic standing and demonstrated need for four years.

Reid Family Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2004 by Bruce J. Reid. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial aid to one or more high achieving female students at University of Puget Sound, with first preference given to a first-generation college student.

Reverend Don H., Norma P., and Alice Ann Glenn Family Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1990 by family and friends in honor of Reverend Don Glenn. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial aid to one or more students enrolled at the University of Puget Sound.

Reverend Nelson W. Wehrhan Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1957 by gifts from family and friends in memory of the Reverend Nelson W. Wehrhan. The scholarship supports worthy students planning to enter full-time Christian work.

This scholarship was established in 2003 by Helen Miller in honor of Richard Miller. This scholarship benefits students who are citizens of the United States majoring in mathematics or the dual degree engineering program.

Richard Bangs Collier Interdisciplinary Scholarship
This fund was established in 1987 by Richard Bangs Collier through the Richard Bangs Collier Institute of Ethics and Science. The award is made to one or more upper-class students who demonstrate an interest in interdisciplinary study that combines science and humanism.

Richard Bangs Collier Pleneurethics Scholarship
This fund was established in 1987 by Richard Bangs Collier, through the Richard Bangs Collier Institute of Ethics and Science. Scholarships are awarded to one or more junior, senior, or graduate student(s) enrolled in the University of Puget Sound on the basis of academic excellence, as defined by holding at least a 3.2 GPA. First preference is given to students with non-sectarian global views pursuing studies in the fields of philosophy, literature, history, natural sciences, or mathematics.

Richard G. and Audrey C. McKnight Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 2000 through gifts from Audrey C. Albertson McKnight ’42, P’66, P’70 (wife of Richard G. McKnight ’50, P’66, P’70), John R. ’66 and Lesley A. Tash ’66 McKnight (son and daughter-in-law), Susan K. McKnight Ingman ’70 and Ray Swanson (daughter and son-in-law), and other family members and friends. This scholarship, named in memory of Richard, supports students majoring in chemistry, with preference to students with demonstrated financial need.

Richard Van Gimel Scholarship
This fund was established in 2003 by Richard Van Gimel. The scholarship supports students who have, by working hard at their studies and by earning a significant portion of their university expenses, shown a determination to succeed.

Richlee Deserved OT-PT Fund
This fund was established in 1999 by the Richlee Deserved Foundation, which was created through a gift from the estate of Richard Stromberg, to be used by the School of Occupational and Physical Therapy to support programs and services for the physically disabled.

This fund was established in 1996 by Bob ’33 and Elsie ’33 Strobel. The scholarship supports students with financial need.

Robert A. Arnold Endowed Fund
This fund was established in 2012 by Robert A. ’63, M.S.’68 and Mariella G. ’70, ’75 Arnold. The fund supports enrolled at Puget Sound, with a preference to biology majors with demonstrated need.

This scholarship was established in 1991 by Jack L. and Gertrude E. Sprenger in honor of Robert D. Sprenger. This scholarship benefits one or more students who are majoring in chemistry, physics, or pre-medicine.

Robert E. and Robert S. Munn Scholarship
This fund was established in 1948 by Mr. and Mrs. Robert S. Munn in memory of their son, Robert E. Munn, who was killed in World War ll. In 1957, Mrs. Robert S. Munn made an additional gift in memory of her husband, Robert S. Munn, and added his name to the name of the fund. It is awarded at the discretion of Student Financial Services.

This scholarship was established in 2015 by Sonia S. Minnitti in honor of Robert F. Minnitti. This scholarship benefits one or more students who has a concentrated focus in education studies.

Robert G. Albertson Distinguished Professorship
This fund was established in 1992 in honor of former professor Robert G. Albertson to  recognize faculty who are personally and professionally committed to undergraduate teaching and teaching excellence.

Robert G. Albertson Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1987 by James R. Slater. The purpose of this scholarship is to aid programs endorsed or initiated by the religion department linking Asia with this campus, fund scholarships for participants in study-travel programs going to Asia, facilitate faculty participation in such study-travel programs, subsidize student and faculty administrative and instructional costs for persons on tour, and support students who are going on a Pacific Rim trip.

Robert G. Kemp Endowed Fund for Int. Affairs
This fund was established in 1998 by Robert Kemp ’39 to help bring visiting professors, scholars, and speakers to campus and to provide scholarships to students studying international business/trade or international affairs.

The scholarship provides assistance to students with demonstrated financial need who are contributing to the cost of their education by working during their college career.

This fund was established in 1961 with gifts from the 1960 graduating class of Stadium High School along with family and friends in memory of Robert Van Arsdale Scott, class of 1961 Stadium High School. The fund is used to purchase books for Collins Memorial Library.

This fund was created in 2015 by Professor Emerita Roberta A. Wilson ’00 to provide support to the exercise science program for the benefit of its laboratories, faculty and student research, and equipment and related expenses.

Ruth and J. Harold Brown Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1997 by Ruth Purkey Brown. This scholarship benefits one or more juniors or seniors with a grade point average of 2.5-3.0 and demonstrated financial need with preference given to students from Whatcom County. The purpose is to benefit students who are often overlooked for scholarships because they are not the top of their class.

This fund was established in 1983 by Lt. Col. Ruth A. King to support students with demonstrated financial need who exhibit motivation to complete their educational goals and have maintained reasonable academic standards.

SAE WA Gamma Chapter Eternal Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2014 by SAE fraternity alumni, family members and friends, organized by SAE Chapter Advisor and Alumni Chapter President, Richard S. Leaf.

This fund was established through a gift made in 2018 by an anonymous donor to support one or more students throughout their time at Puget Sound.

Schlesinger Family Foundation Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 2017 by the Schlesinger Family Foundation to support students enrolled in the Master of Arts in Teaching program.

Schneebeck Music Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2003 by Bethel Schneebeck. The purpose of this scholarship is to enhance the music performance and education at the University of Puget Sound and provide need-based aid to one or more continuing students studying music or participating in a musical performing group on campus.

Scott E. Ross Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 2003 to support students with financial need, with preference to business majors with church affiliation.

Scott Erickson Endowment for Experiential Learning in Art
This fund was established in 2018 by Scott Erickson ’97 to support students majoring in fields other than art and art history in experiencing and engaging with art. Preference is given to students majoring in business and leadership, International Political Economy, or other majors in the humanities or social sciences.

Senator Walter Davis History Fund
This fund was established in 1993 by Nathan and Phyllis Hale in memory of former professor of history, Senator Walter Davis. The fund is to be used at the discretion of the chair of the history department.

Shirley E. and John P. Spear Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 1999 by Shirley ’54 and John Spear to support academically meritorious students with demonstrated financial need who are majoring in one of the physical sciences, life or natural sciences, or mathematics.

Shreve-Russel Family Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2015 by Theo Shreve-Russell and Douglas Russell in honor of Ted and Caroline Shreve. This scholarship benefits one or more students majoring in business or natural science, or engaged in studies with an emphasis in engineering.

This fund was established in 2021 by Sidney F. Whaley, Jr. and Janet M. Whaley to proivde financial aid to students enrolled in Community Music.

This fund was established in 2019 by Allan Steinman. This scholarship provides unrestricted need-based aid to a student in good academic standing.

Sigma Alpha Iota Scholarship
This fund was established in 1953 by a gift from the Tacoma Chapter of Sigma Alpa Iota National Music Fraternity. The scholarship supports a worthy female student majoring in music and who possesses outstanding musical ability.

Sigma Nu Zeta Alpha Chapter Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2016 by Sigma Nu Zeta Alpha Alumni organized by William H. Baarsma, Thomas D. Jobe, Ralph L. Jones, John H. McKain, William C. Nelson, Richard G. Peterson, Bruce J. Reid, and Steven J. White. This scholarship benefits one or more students who are enrolled full-time at the University of Puget Sound and in good academic standing with demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given first to active members of the Sigma Nu Zeta Alpha chapter, then to confirmed descendants of Sigma Nu Zeta Alpha chapter alumni.

Simpson Tacoma Kraft Science Scholarship Award
This scholarship was established in 1993 by the Reed-Henry Fund of the Seattle Foundation, facilitated by William G. Reed, Jr. This scholarship is meant to strengthen ties between the University of Puget Sound, the Simpson Tacoma Kraft Company, and the greater Tacoma community.

Sirach Capital Management Scholarship
This fund was established in 1997 by the Sirach Capital Management Company to support upper-class students majoring in business with a GPA of 3.0 or higher and demonstrated financial need.

Skinner Foundation BLP Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1988 by The Skinner Foundation and benefits a student who has been admitted to the Business Leadership Program.

Sodor Family Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2002 by Jeane Soder. This scholarship benefits one student, alternating between students who major in humanities and students who major in the social sciences.

Sophie L. Anderson Scholarship
This fund was established in 2017 by the Sophie L. Anderson Educational Trust to provide scholarship support to students with demonstrated financial need who exhibit ability and industry and a promise of useful citizenship. Preference is given to students studying history, liberal arts, health sciences, and education.

Stanford E. Pulliam, Jr. Memorial Scholarship
This fund was created in 1981 by Caroline M. Pulliam in memory of her son, Stanford E. Pulliam, Jr., to support undergraduate students in the School of Business and Public Administration with demonstrated financial need.

Stella Richardson Memorial Fund
This fund was established in 1961 by the First Methodist Church Building Fund, Seattle, and was added to by Mr. Edward Richardson in memory of his wife, Stella Richardson. The fund provides scholarship aid to worthy students.

Stephanie Ausich Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1991 by Dr. and Mrs. Ausich in honor of Stephanie Ausich. This scholarship will benefit one or more students enrolled at the University of Puget Sound who has demonstrated academic excellence and is majoring in history.

Stephen P. Hunter Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2000 by Paul C. and Birgit C. Hunter in memory of Stephen P. Hunter. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial aid to three Sigma Nu students attending the University of Puget Sound: the pledge with the highest GPA, the current member with the highest GPA, and the current member with the most improved GPA.

Steve and Lindsay May Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2005 by Donna and Stephen May in honor of their daughter Lindsay May, a Puget Sound alumna. This scholarship will benefit one or more students at the University of Puget Sound.

Steven E. Kriese Science Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1991 by Steven Kriese. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial aid on the basis of need to a student enrolled at the University of Puget Sound who is studying any of the sciences.

Sturm Family Foundation Experiential Learning Fund
This fund was established in 2016 by the Sturm Family Foundation. The purpose of this fund is to provide stipends for ten Summer Immersion Internship Program (SIIP) students working at local non-profits and governmental organizations.

This fund was established in 2001 through an anonymous gift to provide funding for a professor of humanities commited to teaching major texts within both departmental and non-departmental courses.

The purpose of this fund is to annually sponsor: a) one featured speaker who is a notable published writer of fiction, poetry, or plays, a recognized artist, or a recognized musician, and b) one single speaker, two speakers in a debate format, or a panel exploring a policy issue from a historical, ethical, scientific, or political perspective.

This fund was established in 2017 by Susan E. Strobel ’70 to support students with demonstrated finanical need who are residents of Tacoma, Washington, with preference to graduates of Lincoln High School.

Susie McDonald Occupational Therapy Internship Award
This fund was established in 2003 to provide support to defray the cost of internships for students in the Occupational Therapy program who are undertaking a pedriatric affiliation.

Suzanne Barnett Chair of Contemporary China Studies
This fund was established in 2018 in honor of Professor Emerita of History Suzanne Wilson Barnett through a series of gifts from The Trimble Foundation to enhance the Asian studies program at Puget Sound with the addition of a full-time tenure-track social scientist with expertise in one or more of the following areas related to contemporary China studies: international economy and trade, regional and border relations, environmental studies, and social and technological change.

This fund was created in 2012 by Professor Emerita of History Suzanne Wilson Barnett to provide faculty development resources to support the advancement of faculty expertise in scholarship and teaching about Asia.

This scholarship was established in 1991 by Sven E. and Tove Simoneson. This scholarship benefits one or more students who are in pursuit of an education but require financial assistance to reach their educational goals.

Swayze Family Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 1999 through a gift from Gretchen Swayze Wilbert ’49 to support students with demonstrated financial need who exhibit an interest in service through community service and leadership activities.

Tacoma Opti - Mrs. Club Scholarship
This fund was established in 1962 by a gift from the Tacoma Optimist Club. The scholarship supports a mature junior or senior female student who has demonstrated wholesomeness of character, leadership, and promise of further usefulness.

Tacoma Rainiers Community Fund Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 1997 through gifts from Tacoma Rainiers Community Fund to provide annual scholarships to students participating in the baseball and softball programs.

Tamra and Kurt Mobley Annual Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2020 by Kurt C. and Tamra Mobley. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide annual financial aid to a need-based student in good academic standing.

Taniguchi Family Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 2018 by a gift from Barry K. and Sandy K. Taniguchi P’10, P’12 to support students from Hawai’i with demonstrated financial need.

Tarbell Family Endowed Visiting Mentorship Fund
This fund was established in 2015 by the Tarbell Family Foundation through the sponsorship of Foundation trustee Patricia Leiser and Foundation board member Gary Leiser. This purpose of this fund is to bring a senior scholar, who is a member of the tenured faculty at an institution of higher education that specializes in the study of the Muslim Middle East, to the University of Puget Sound for a campus visit that will provide opportunities for mentorship, discussion, and teaching that might inspire undergraduate students to pursue the study of the Muslim Middle East (defined as Muslim countries in which Arabic, Turkish, or Persian is the predominant language).

Ted Christensen III Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1998 by Ted Christensen III and benefits one or more students enrolled at the University of Puget Sound.

Terry Lengfelder-Arthur Andersen Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1997 by partners in the Seattle office of Arthur Anderson in honor of Terry Lengfelder. This scholarship benefits students who have demonstrated financial need, with preference given to students who transfer to the University of Puget Sound after completing two years of study at a community college.

The Blaine L. Wiseman Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2003 by Blaine Wiseman. This scholarship benefits one or more students enrolled at the University of Puget Sound who are majoring in geology.

The Chism Fund in the Humanities and Arts
This fund supports visiting artists or scholars in the arts and humanities at the University of Puget Sound for a period ranging from a few days to several months, though normally not to exceed a semester.

The Colorado Alumni Endowed Scholarship
The fund was created in 2010 by Peter (Pete) Neidecker ’77, P’06 and alumni who are residents of Colorado. The scholarship supports students with demonstrated financial need who are residents of Colorado.

The David and Julie Watson Family Posse Fund
The fund was established in 2021 by David ’92 and Julie Watson. The fund provides resources to support students who are enrolled at Puget Sound through the university's partnership with the Posse Foundation.

The Ernest and Mabel Clay Memorial Endowment Fund
This fund was established in 1989 by Clement J. Carlsonto to memorialize two alumni of the class of 1920: Ernest and Mabel Clay. The scholarship supports students participating in study-travel programs, including students from this campus going to Asia and students from Asia coming here.

The Goh Family Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 2001 by Tju Kiang Goh P’02 and his wife, Mui Piang Chia P’02. The scholarship supports students who are enrolled in the International Political Economy program, with a preference for students who have emphasized studies in Asia or who have traveled there as well.

The Islam Family Foundation Scholarship
This fund was established in 2006 by the Islam Family Foundation. The scholarship supports a full-time graduate or undergraduate student with demonstrated high financial need and a minimum 2.5 GPA who is either a first-generation college student or first-generation U.S. immigrant and/or foreign citizen. Special consideration is given to students of Turkish descent/citizenship.

The James F. and Ruth E. Caputo Research Fund
This fund was established in 1985 by Drs. James F. ’68 and Ruth E. Decann ’69 Caputo. The fund provides summer research stipends for chemistry students.

The Jennifer L. Graham Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2006 by Jennifer L. Graham in honor of George J. Matelich. This scholarship benefits one or more students enrolled at the University of Puget Sound.

The John Mitchell Hall Memorial Faculty Fellowship
This fund was established in 1963 by a bequest from John Mitchell Hall. The fund established the John Mitchell Hall Memorial Faculty Fellowship Endowment Fund which provides annual fellowship awards to faculty.

The Korst Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 2013 by Jeremy ’97 and Lisa Korst. The scholarship supports a high-achieving member of the incoming first year class with demonstrated financial need, who possesses or demonstrates those qualities and attributes as outlined as selection criteria for candidate fanialists for the Matelich Scholars Program.

The Leavitt Family Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2014 by Thomas Leavitt, Darcy Goodman, Adrien G. Leavitt, and Alexander G. Leavitt in honor of the Leavitt family's enduring relationship with the university. This scholarship benefits one incoming first year student with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

The Lora Bryning Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2010 by Ralph Redford in honor of Lora Bryning Redford. The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage young people who display excellence and talent in their ability to express themselves and their intellect in writing, as well as help them achieve their fullest potential.

The Nancy ’69 and Arthur Hooper Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 2010 by Nancy ’69 and Arthur Hooper. It is awarded at the discretion of Student Financial Services.

The Physics Merit Scholarship
This fund was established in 2008 by Dr. Bert Brown, retired physics professor at the University of Puget Sound. The scholarship supports one or more academically talented junior or senior students majoring or minoring in physics, as recommended by the Department of Physics.

The Raines Family Scholarship
This fund was established in 1993 by Beverly ’52, ’53 and Donald Raines. The fund supports a student in the Occupational Therapy program with a second preference for a student in the Physical Therapy program.

The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation
This fund was established in 1986 by the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. The fund supports faculty and curricular development and institutional self-renewal.

Theodore Kyle Sanders Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 2014 by Sonny J. Sanders P’98 in memory of her son, Theodore Kyle Sanders ’98. The scholarship supports students with demonstrated financial need.

Thomas and Della Glasscock and Bethel Vella Glasscock Scholarship
This fund was established in 1976 by Mr. Laird Glasscock in honor of his parents and his wife. The scholarship supports a student majoring in an academic area which would assist him/her in serving mankind in a humantarian capacity after graduation.

Thomas E. Elliott Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1986 by Dorcas Miller Arnett in memory of her father, who received an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Puget Sound in 1910. It is awarded at the discretion of Student Financial Services.

Thomas W. Smith Endowed Fund for Biology
This fund was established in 2004 by Thomas W. Smith ’71. The fund supports the Department of Biology with a preference for marine biology.

Thomson Mann Annual Scholarship
This fund was established in 2022 by Ann Thomas Mann ’86 and David Mann to provide scholarship support to a student with good academic standing and demonstrated need for four years.

Todd A. Kelly Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1988 by Walter and Helen Kelly in in remembrance of their youngest son, Todd ’84. The scholarship provides support for a student with junior or senior standing with a preference given to a Sigma Alpha Epsilon student who best exhibits the qualities of a true gentleman and other leadership characteristics as determined by contributions to the chapter, grade point average, and university involvement.

Tom Yok Family Experiential Learning Endowed Fund
This fund was established in 2019 by Larry Yok ’69, M.B.A.’80. The fund supports students participating in summer internships at museums in the United States.

U.S. Bank Business Scholarship
This fund was established in 2003 by U.S. Bank to assist minority students pursuing business majors.

University of Puget Sound Retention Scholarship
This fund was established in 2006 by Jennifer Bohn ’96. The scholarship supports students with demonstrated finanical need with a preference for students in the International Political Economy program.

UPS Women’s League Library Fund
This fund was established in 2007 by the UPS Women’s League to help purchase books for the Collins Memorial Library.

Valerie L. Andrews Music Scholarship
This fund was established in 2009 by Marilyn Andrews ’44. The scholarship supports qualified vocal students who are a part of the music department at the University of Puget Sound.

Van I. and Evelyn D. Walkley Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 2015 by Evelyn Walkley ’57. This scholarship supports students who live in the greater Tri-Cities area of Washington State.

Vanda Bortell Scholarship
This fund was established in 1993 by Vanda Bortell. The fund provides scholarships for worthy students who are in need of financial assistance.

Victoria E. Green Memorial Fund

Virginia and Velton Marshall Scholarship
This fund was established in 1995 by Virginia Wheelock Marshall. This scholarship supports students who are Tacoma residents and graduates of Stadium High School.

W. Dean Henry Endowed Fund for Posse
This fund was established in 2019 by W. Dean Henry ’69. The fund supports the Posse Program at Puget Sound which provides students access to a quality Puget Sound education, which might otherwise not be available to many well qualified students.

WA Mutual Savings Bank BLP Foundation Scholarship
This fund was established in 1987 by Washington Mutual Savings Bank. The award supports minority students in the Business Leadership Program.

Wade and Beth Perrow Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 1999 by Wade '73 and Beth '72 Perrow P'02. Scholarships are to be awarded to students who have demonstrated financial need and are enrolled in business coursework. Preference should be given to students from Pierce and Kitsap Counties.

Wallace C. and Geraldine Thompson Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 2006 by Geraldine Thompson to support students with demonstrated financial need.

Walter Price Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1989 by Helen Price Brandt in memory of her father, Walter Price. The scholarship supports one or more students with demonstrated academic excellence.

Warren and Josephine Orr Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1990 by Josephine Orr. It is awarded at the discretion of Student Financial Services.

Warren L. Perry Endowed Book Fund
This fund was established in 1976 by Mrs. Meretta S. Perry in memory of Warren L. Perry, a librarian. The fund provides support to purchase books for Collins Memorial Library.

Watanabe Experiential Learning Fund
This fund was established in 2020 by Taul and Sachiko Watanabe P’75, M.B.A.’76 and Guy ’75, M.B.A.’76 and Audrey Watanabe. The fund provides support for one or more students majoring in business, economics, or International Political Economy to pursue experiential learning opportunities such as inernships, off-campus study, and summer research. Students may participate in these opportunities individually or may seek to partner with one or more students. In all cases, students will partner with a member of the Puget Sound faculty who will serve as sponsor, advisor, or mentor.

This fund was established in 1968 by E. G. Clarke in memory of his parents, William and Frances M. Clarke. The scholarship provides aid for outstanding students seeking a Christian education.

This fund was established in 2009 by William and Flora McCormick and created a tenure-line faculty position in biophysics.

This fund was established in 2008 by Bill Canfield ’76, P’07 to provide research stipends for summer scientific research projects.

This fund was established in 1996 through a grant from the William Randolph Hearst Foundation to provide assistance to students with financial need.

William S. Anderson Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1961 by Mrs. Manson F. Backus II in memory of her father, William S. Anderson. The scholarship provides aid for worthy students.

William W. Kilworth Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 2003 to assist Pierce County high school graduates who are active in civic affairs or high school activities.

Women in Business Leadership Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 2007 through an anonymous gift to support female students enrolled in the Business Leadership Program who have demonstrated finanical need. Second preference is given to female students with demonstrated finanical need who are majoring in math or science.

Yeuk Tsun Lam Scholarship
This fund was established in 1964 by Dr. Yeuk Tsun Lam. The scholarship provides support to students with Chinese ancestry. Second preference is given to students of other Asian backgrounds.
