Built in 1964, Baker Stadium was made possible by an $80,000 bequest by John S. Baker. Mr. Baker was a leader in banking and business in Tacoma for more than 60 years. He came to town in 1881 at age 20 and was the first senator to represent Pierce County after Washington became a state.
