The University of Puget Sound’s Taiko drumming club was not just an extracurricular activity for Lev Jersan '26 — it was a primary reason he chose to apply.

His journey from Missouri to Washington is a great example of the Puget Sound experience. It’s the opportunity to find a deep sense of community and fully invest in a passion. The Taiko club, known as Yume Daiko, serves as a home for students of all backgrounds, from those like Jersan who sought it out for years, to those who simply walk in curious, never having heard about it at all before.

The University of Puget Sound will host a powerful residency with New York’s Reentry Theater of Harlem (RTH), bringing its innovative, arts-based approach to justice and rehabilitation to campus from Oct. 20 to Nov. 17. The visit, featuring RTH founder Alex Anderson and assistant art director Rory Anderson and Arts educator Charanya Ramakrishnan, is a major initiative of the university’s Mellon Foundation-funded project to reimagine justice through the humanities.

The University of Puget Sound celebrated a successful fiscal year 2024-25, announcing it raised $12.1 million in gifts and pledges from more than 3,700 donors. A key driver of this year's success was the Puget Sound Fund, which received an impressive $2.1 million.

The Puget Sound Fund provides vital and flexible support for the university’s most critical needs. It is a resource that touches every part of the university, from financial aid and faculty retention to capital improvements and co-curricular programs. The fund is highlighted each spring during Logger Day Challenge.

From the Hardwood to the Page: A Student's Summer of Service

For Tdohasan Chastang Sunray ’27, the summer wasn't about rest — it was about giving back. The University of Puget Sound English major spent his summer in the realm of creative writing, embarking on a mission to inspire the next generation of storytellers throughout the state of Oklahoma. Funded by a Matelich Summer Challenge Grant, the project was his way of serving a part of his community often overlooked. 

Constitution Day and Civic Engagement Events

University of Puget Sound will host a series of events next week to mark National Voter Registration Day on Tuesday, Sept. 16, and Constitution Day on Wednesday, Sept. 17.

The events, organized by Puget Sound’s Civic Engagement team and the Office of General Counsel and Risk Management, aim to foster civic participation and educate the campus community on the rights and responsibilities outlined in the U.S. Constitution.
