The annual Jacobsen Series features esteemed Puget Sound music faculty and guest performers. Ticket sales support the Jacobsen Series Scholarship Fund, which awards annual music scholarships to an outstanding member of Sigma Alpha Iota, international music fraternity.

Jacobsen Series

Established in 1984, this annual series celebrates faculty and guest talent in a variety of performances held at Schneebeck Concert Hall. The series was named in honor of Leonard Jacobsen, former chair of the piano department at Puget Sound.

2020–21 Season: Announcing the Virtual Spring Series

The School of Music is pleased to present the virtual spring Jacobsen Series featuring esteemed faculty performances. Due to continued limitations on public gatherings, spring concerts will be streamed online via Schneebeck LIVE.

Sphinx Virtuosi chamber orchestra

Sphinx Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra

Sphinx Virtuosi is one of the nation’s most dynamic professional chamber orchestras, comprising 18 top Black and Latinx classical soloists. This broadcast is part of a multi-event residency with Sphinx, a Detroit-based national organization dedicated to transforming lives through the power of diversity in the arts.

 

Sphinx Virtuosi will be performing works by Xavier Foley, Jessie Montgomery, Antonín Dvořák, Andrea Casarrubios, Leonard Bernstein, and Michael Abels.

Sphinx EXIGENCE vocal ensemble

Sphinx EXIGENCE Vocal Ensemble

Sphinx EXIGENCE is a professional vocal ensemble highlighting artistry within Black and Latinx communities. Led by founding conductor Eugene Rogers and comprised of vocal artists including solo performers, educators, conductors and composers, EXIGENCE celebrates the power of community and expression through choral music.

 

Sphinx EXIGENCE will be performing works by Xavier Foley, Joel Thompson, and Philip Herbert, as well as traditional gospel pieces such as Ndikhokhele Bawo.

Tribute to Tanya Stambuk

A tribute in honor of Dr. Tanya Stambuk upon her retirement from Puget Sound. Joining Dr. Stambuk in performance will be the Puget Sound Piano Trio -- Maria Sampen, violin; Alistair MacRae, cello; Tanya Stambuk, piano; joined by Dawn Padula, mezzo-soprano.
