Music of the Aids Crisis

Join us for a special Jacobsen Series performance, Music of the Aids Crisis, conducted by Gerard Morris with piano soloist Kim Davenport, joined by 41 School of Music faculty, alumni, and students. The program will include works by Kevin Oldham, Fred Hersch, and Dan Welcher, featuring Oldham's "Concerto for Piano, Opus 14A," one of his largest works, composed after learning of his HIV diagnosis at age 28.

The School of Music is pleased to welcome Duo Diorama -- Winston Choi, piano, and Minghuan Xu, violin, known for bold programming and dynamic performances. The program will include music by Augusta Read Thomas, John Corigliano, Dmitri Shostakovich, and Harold Arlen/Leonard Bernstein.

Girsky String Quartet with Xiaohui Yang, piano

Jacobsen Series: Celebrating Leroy Ostransky Day 50th Anniversary

Join us as we celebrate Puget Sound composers on the 50th Anniversary of Leroy Ostransky Day in Tacoma! Ostransky '48 (1918–1993) graduated from Puget Sound with honors in 1948 and returned as a faculty member in 1952 after earning his Ph.D. at the University of Iowa. In 1975, People magazine named him one of the nation's 12 outstanding teachers.

Puget Sound Piano Trio

Jacobsen Series 2025-26 performances featuring Puget Sound music faculty, renowned guest artists, and inspiring themed concerts. Join us for the Puget Sound Piano Trio, the School of Music's artists-in-residence featuring Maria Sampen, violin; Alistair MacRae, cello; and Ronaldo Rolim, piano. 

The program will include music by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Marilyn Shrude, and Maurice Ravel.

The Breaking Winds Bassoon Quartet

Join us for the Breaking Winds Bassoon Quartet, a genre-blending, all-female ensemble known for their innovative performances with bassoons, kazoos, melodicas, and more. Formed at the Eastman School of Music, they gained global recognition after their 2011 viral YouTube hit "Lady Gaga Saga." They’ve since performed with prestigious groups like the Eastman Wind Ensemble, West Point Band, and have been featured artists at numerous IDRS conferences, Beijing International Bassoon Festival, and various U.S. music conferences and symposiums. 

icarus Quartet Concert

Experience the icarus Quartet performing Bartók Rebórn, a riveting program featuring and paying homage to Bartók's Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion, through the artistic vision of three of today's most illuminating musical minds.
