Cultivating Curiosity: Puget Sound Celebrates Teaching Excellence

Sam Kigar, an associate professor of Islam in the Department of Religion, Spirituality, & Society, received the 2024 President's Excellence in Teaching Award, the highest distinction given to a faculty member for exceptional contributions to teaching and the university community. Professor Kigar says he is deeply committed to building strong relationships with his students, fostering a learning environment that sparks passion and encourages collaborative thinking. 

University of Puget Sound Names Tim Whittum as Vice President for Enrollment

Tacoma, Wash.—Following an extensive national search, the University of Puget Sound has named Tim Whittum as vice president for enrollment, effective January 13, 2025. Whittum joins Puget Sound from Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU), where he has served in a variety of admission leadership positions for the institution’s main, liberal-arts residential campus since 2010, most recently as associate vice president of admission and campus’s chief enrollment officer.

Professor Andreas Madlung of University of Puget Sound Receives Lynwood W. Swanson Scientific Research Award

Tacoma, Wash. – Professor of Biology Andreas Madlung has been named the 2024 recipient of the Lynwood W. Swanson Scientific Research Award from the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust. This award recognizes outstanding scholarship and a commitment to inspiring scientific curiosity in students. The award was presented to Professor Madlung at the Murdock College Science Research Conference in Vancouver, Washington, on Nov. 8.

Puget Sound Student Lands Prestigious NIH Internship

This prestigious opportunity allowed the Molecular and Cellular Biology major to apply his research skills, honed in the Thines Lab, and explore his passion for therapeutic applications in medicine.
