Where can I find current job openings?

Current job openings for faculty and staff positions can be found online at www.pugetsound.edu/employment.

How do I apply for a position at the University of Puget Sound?

Puget Sound accepts all applications for faculty and staff positions online through our employment website,www.pugetsound.edu/employment. When viewing a job posting, click the “Apply Now” button at the bottom of the job posting. If you have not yet used our employment website, you will need to register for an account by choosing "Register Now." If you have used our employment site, please log in using your username and password. Please complete the application, including all questions, and submit all required materials; submitting an incomplete application may delay or prevent you from being considered for the position. The position's search committee will contact you directly should they wish to schedule a phone or in-person interview.

How do I request an accommodation in the application process?

To request an accommodation when completing an application or in another aspect of the application process, please contact Human Resources at hr@pugetsound.edu or 253.879.3369.

Can I apply via U.S. mail or fax?

Due to the high volume of applications we receive, we cannot accept mailed or faxed application materials. Please submit application materials as requested through our online job site at www.pugetsound.edu/employment. Some searches will require additional materials (for example, portfolios, teaching evaluations, or reference letters) to be submitted in electronic format. Should you have difficulty applying online, please contact our office at hr@pugetsound.edu or 253.879.3369 for assistance.

To whom should I address my cover letter?

Please address your cover letter to the “Search Committee” or “Hiring Manager.” Inquiries regarding the status of the search or about the position may be directed to our office using the contact information above. The names of search chairs and search committee members are provided only when a candidate is selected for the interview.

How will I know if my application is complete?

To view your application materials, please log in to the employment site http://www.pugetsound.edu/employment and select either Faculty Positions or Staff Positions. Once on the job search page, you can select the “Sign In” link at the page's top right corner. Once you sign in to your profile, selecting “My Activities” will show applications in process. If you submit a duplicate application, please send an email message to hr@pugetsound.edu with your full name, username, and title of the position for which you applied so that we may remove your duplicate application. Please note that an “Applied” status indicates that your resume and cover letter are under review by the search committee. If you have questions further questions about whether your application is complete, please reach out to Human Resources at hr@pugetsound.edu.

Can I update my resume or cover letter after I have applied?

Yes. You may either submit a second application as described above, or you may send the updated materials via email to hr@pugetsound.edu along with the title of the position to which you have applied. Please note that if a search is already past the review process, we might not submit new or updated materials for a search in progress.

Why do you ask for salary expectations in my application materials?

If you are selected to interview for a staff position, you may be contacted by the hiring manager or a Human Resources representative to provide your salary requirements. This gives us a preliminary comparison between those requirements and our hiring rate or range.

I am having difficulty attaching my required documents. What should I do?

If you are experiencing technical difficulties with the application process, please contact our office for remote assistance or to schedule a time to come in and use our computer kiosks. Please keep in mind that we only accept the following documents: PDF, .doc, and .docx, with a maximum file size of 10 MB. We are currently unable to accept protection PDFs.

I’d like to contact the search committee/search chair to express my interest in the position I applied for. How can I contact them?

We invite you to consider your cover letter as the first opportunity to express your interest in the position. If you are selected to proceed to the next stage in the hiring process, you will be contacted directly via phone or email for a follow-up or an invitation to participate in a phone or in-person interview. Because many search committees communicate these invitations via email, please designate the pugetsound.edu and Puget sound.jobs domains as protected senders, so these email invitations do not go to email junk folders.


I have forgotten my username and password for www.pugetsound.edu/employment. What do I do?

Please visit the employment site http://www.pugetsound.edu/employment and select either Faculty Positions or Staff Positions. Once on the job search page, you can select the “Sign In” link at the page's top right corner. On this page, you may request help with your username or password. Human Resources is unable to reset passwords for candidates.

Where does my reference provider send letters of reference?

If you have applied for a position that requests letters of reference, the system will require you to enter your reference providers' contact information. The system will send automated emails to these providers requesting them to upload a letter of reference on the next business day.

Should the position you applied for not require letters of reference, the search committee will contact your reference providers by phone if you are a finalist for the open position.


Hiring Process

How and when will I be contacted for an interview?

The search committee will contact you directly using the phone number(s) or email address listed on your application materials to set up an on-campus or phone interview. Our search process for open positions can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months. If you are not selected for an interview, you will receive a notice via email when the position is filled. We ask for your patience in waiting to hear back from the search committee directly.

How does the temporary pool work at the University of Puget Sound?

The university regularly has needs for temporary staff for short- or limited-term temporary assignments. To indicate your interest in temporary work, you can apply for the temporary on-call pool position listed online at www.pugetsound.edu/employment. Each pool is open for six months, after which it is refreshed so that we may maintain an active list of individuals interested in temporary or on-call employment. If your skills and qualifications match an open temporary position, we will contact you directly to schedule an interview.
