This lecture will focus on the possibility of supporting users through the grieving process by helping them remember and imagine those they lost with so-called chatbots of the dead—chatbots trained on texts, messages, and videos of actual people who passed away. The class will review some actual examples of griefbots and critically engage with some philosophical arguments for and against such use of artificial intelligence.
