In February 2022, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, starting a war that has lasted four years, created hundreds of thousands of casualties, and thrown Europe into turmoil. In order to explain Russia’s War in Ukraine, one should look further than Putin’s political objectives to history. This class will explore the historical roots of the conflict in Russia’s imperial identity and the collective memory of victory in World War II.

Alumni Travel: From Orientation to Alumni Hike with Puget Sound Outdoors | 10:30 a.m.–1 p.m. (estimated)

This guided hike will spark memories for alumni who participated in Prelude, Passages and Perspectives, or New Student Orientation. Led by Puget Sound Outdoors student leaders, the hike will take place at Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge, an easy/moderate hike, and is designed to foster connection among alumni with shared beginnings. Participants will enjoy time outdoors while reconnecting and reflecting on how outdoor programs shaped their Puget Sound experience. Transportation will be provided for registered attendees, and hiking comfort level can be indicated during registration. Please be sure to bring your binoculars. Note that weather conditions may impact the event, and the hike may be canceled due to severe weather.
