The University of Puget Sound recently hosted the Washington State Special Olympics Spring Games, bringing soccer, swimming, and track athletes to campus alongside the vital FUNfitness health screening program. Backed by thousands of volunteers, including Puget Sound students, this marks the second year the university has hosted the games — a partnership that Liz Corwin, FUNfitness clinical director and Puget Sound assistant professor, said has transformed the experience for both Puget Sound students.

Rovin Ian Antonio ’23, DPT’26 is graduating with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. An army veteran and Puget Sound alumnus, Antonio has been a steadfast leader within his cohort, serving as co-president of the Student Physical Therapy Association. In this role, he organized program-wide events and secured partnerships to fund student research and global travel. Antonio also coordinated the Fall 2025 PT/OT Job Fair, connecting more than a hundred students with potential employers.

Rebecca Johnson DPT’27 and her classmates spend their Wednesday mornings at the YMCA, showing local teenagers the difference between a proper squat and one that invites injury later. No prescriptions. No diagnoses. Just conversation, demonstration, and the occasional laugh between sets.

Representing the University of Puget Sound on a global stage, 11 Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) students and six faculty members recently traveled to Anaheim, California, in February, for the American Physical Therapy Association’s (APTA) Combined Sections Meeting (CSM). 

Inside the University of Puget Sound’s Ann Wilson On-site Teaching Clinic, patients work side by side with doctoral students who are learning to master their knowledge and skills of the profession while offering care to the community. Here, movement is restored step by step — through careful manipulation on mat treatment tables and with the help of parallel bars and exercise machines. For many patients, the clinic is more than a teaching space; it is a lifeline.
