The use of anti-virus software plays an important role in protecting the University of Puget Sound’s computer and network resources. A computer infected by a virus may be used to attack countless other machines, putting individual resources and the university’s infrastructure at risk.

All computers connecting to the Puget Sound network must run anti-virus software with on-access scanning and updated virus definitions (see Network Access Requirements). The university provides recommendation for free anti-virus software for use on the personal computers of Puget Sound students, faculty, and staff. Those connecting to the network may run alternative brands of anti-virus software as long as updates are maintained.

Technology Services installs and maintains anti-virus software on university-owned computers.
