The Mortar Board Last Lecture Series chooses a retiring faculty member to give a talk on a topic of their choice. Dr. Lisa Nunn will be retiring this spring after a career teaching in the Economics department, from which she earned her bachelor's degree.

Dmitri Brown '12, Assistant Professor of North American History at UC Berkeley, will present his research on a Tewa Pueblo history of the Manhattan Project. 

A rich multidisciplinary panel discussion on the topic of memory.  

Blues Vespers is a long-time Tacoma tradition that happens roughly once a month, inviting campus and community members to gather and hear great local live Blues, a poem or two, and a little something to think about.  Our April Vespers welcomes back Tacoma's own Stephanie Anne Johnson, performing with Seattle guitarist Jeff Fielder. To close out Black History Month, African American Studies is proud to host nationally and internationally renowned researcher and educator, Dr. Joy Angela DeGruy, on the Puget Sound campus. Dr. DeGruy holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication, a Master's degree in Social Work (MSW), a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology, and a PhD in Social Work Research. She authored the book entitled “Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome: America’s Legacy of Enduring Injury and Healing”, which addresses the residual impacts of trauma on African Descendants in the Americas.

African American Studies hosts alum and founder of the Black Student Union, Louis Smith ‘69, to share insights from his experiences as one of the first Black student-athletes at Puget Sound during the Civil Rights Era of the 1960s. The conversation will be moderated by African American Studies alum Donovan Wilson '22.
