Writing Center Faculty

Faculty consultants work with students who are writing personal statements for post-graduate opportunities such as graduate school, professional school, or post-graduate fellowships.

Renee Simms, Associate Professor of African American Studies
"I’m a writer interested in African diaspora literature; black women’s fiction; the intersections of law and literature; and community writing pedagogies. I enjoy helping students think through choices they’ve made in a draft as well as the expectations of a written genre. All great writing happens during revision."
Hours: TBA

Leslie Saucedo, Professor of Biology
"I'm a cell biologist, with a primary focus on cancer biology. Writing is an essential component of being a scientist. You must maintain a lab notebook to serve as an accessible and accurate record of your daily work, write extensive grant proposals to secure funding, and publish primary research articles to acquire an advanced degree (and job!). However, I've been most gratified with my less technical writing projects; including broad reviews of my field and personal essays. I imagine it is because these types of works appeal to my core need to share my love of biology through teaching. I find that my writing improves most by allowing substantial time between drafts, so that I can see it through fresh eyes. It is my hope that I can similarly serve as set of fresh eyes for your writing projects."
Hours: TBA

Rachael Shelden, CWLT Interim Director, by appointment
