July 1, 2016

Dear Members of the Campus Community,

Just prior to my arrival I began working on some key issues on behalf of Puget Sound, including the process to select a vice president for enrollment to succeed Jenny Rickard (who leaves us in August to become executive director of The Common Application in Washington, D.C.).

Working closely with Jenny and Cindy Matern, associate vice president for Human Resources and Career and Employment Services, we have retained Napier Executive Search to assist with the search, and invited the following faculty, staff, and students to serve on the search committee. The search committee will begin its work next week, and there will be ample opportunity for broad campus involvement in the process. We hope to have finalists on campus for interviews with the campus community early in the fall semester.

Members of the search committee are:

  • Kris Bartanen, Academic Vice President and Dean of the University
  • Allison Cannady-Smith, Director of Alumni and Parent Relations
  • Alyce DeMarais, Professor of Biology
  • Brian Ernst, ’13, Assistant Director of Admission
  • Tess Exumé ’17, Student
  • Dexter Gordon, Professor of Communication Studies; Professor and Director of African American Studies Program
  • Bryan Gould, Associate Director for Student Financial Services
  • Amy Hackett, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics
  • Gayle McIntosh, Executive Director of Communications
  • Sherry Mondou, Vice President for Finance and Administration
  • Vivie Nguyen, Director of Intercultural Engagement
  • Ellen Peters, Director of Institutional Research
  • Megan Reich ’17, Student
  • Martha Wilson, Associate Director for Admission Operations
  • Search Committee Chair: Isiaah Crawford, President
  • Administrative Support: Cindy Matern, Associate Vice President for Human Resources and Career and Employment Services

Jenny will complete her service at Puget Sound on August 1 and her successor will likely not join us until later in the year. As a consequence, we are working to identify someone to serve as interim vice president for enrollment to manage the activities of the division during the fall semester. We expect to have more information about the progress of that search shortly. Meanwhile, I am grateful for the assistance of the search committee and the entire campus community as we work together to identify Puget Sound’s next vice president for enrollment.

Sincerely,

Isiaah
