Son of a Spanish political exile interred in Gurs concentration camp in France, Raymond Villalba continues the fight for social justice and the defense of democracy and freedoms. He will join Puget Sound for a special virtual event hosted by Professor Nagore Sedano Naveira’s Spanish 404 seminar, “The Returning Resistance: Memory, Gender, and Nationalisms in Spain,” and all campus community members are invited to join the conversation at 2:00 p.m.

Blues Vespers @ Kilworth is back for our Fall Season! Each month, the University Chaplaincy hosts this free, Sunday 5pm concert featuring local and regional blues musicians, some poetry, and a little something to think about. Vespers is cohosted with Pastor Dave Brown, the founder of Blues Vespers and a long-time community partner for the Chaplaincy.

The Office of Institutional Equity & Diversity is proud to present Harriet Tubman - Visions of Freedom. A documentary by Oscar Nominated Director Stanley Nelson, it is a rich and nuanced portrait of the woman known as a conductor of the Underground Railroad, who repeatedly risked her own life and freedom to liberate others from slavery. This event is FREE and is a premier showing in advance of its October air date!

There will be a 30 minute moderated discussion following the film.

Join poet and University of Puget Sound Librarian, Wendy Lee Spacek for a writing workshop based on the themes of the Tacoma Reads youth selection We Belong by Collie Hiponia.  During the workshop, you will be guided through a series of writing exercises to mine your personal mythology (family lore, cultural traditions/heritage) in order to write your own poetic origin story.  Please register in advance.  For teens and adults.
