International Artist in Residence: Luis Alonso Sánchez
October 21–December 11
Reception Oct 22, 5 p.m.
Modern Lovers explores love and contraband as ways of living along border sites, showing how limits shape movements, desires, risks, and losses in everyday life. Crossing the border, these artists trace ways in which people, objects, stories, and beliefs traverse liminal spaces not only physically, but also emotionally, conceptually, and sometimes even paranormally.
In Sweet Dreams Vol. 2, Luis Alonso Sánchez creates a space without traced pathways. Burned wood, sound darkness, and intermittent flashes of light produce an uncanny space. The spectator, as protagonist, moves through sensations of unbounded nightmares and unarticulated memories, evoking the feeling of a body trapped within a dream, unable to fully awaken. Suspended within this memoryscape, the artworks reveal presences whose sources remain unseen and spectral.
