Sarah is passionate about art history, museum work, and French culture. Her goal is to become a curator in an art museum after completing a graduate degree in art history or museum studies. Upon graduation, Sarah will serve as Museum Assistant at the Tacoma Historical Society and Museum Intern at the Snoqualmie Falls Hydroelectric Museum. Starting in October of 2019, Sarah will move to Nice, to serve as Teaching Assistant in a primary school through the Teaching Assistant Program in France managed by the Centre international d'études pédagogiques.
During her studies at Puget Sound, Sarah has been able to take advantage of the many experiential learning opportunities our school offers. She has worked as student curator for two exhibitions in Kittredge Gallery: Painting the National Parks that focused on Abby Williams Hill’s paintings of US National Parks under the leadership of Professor Williams in Spring 2017; and Traversing the Urban Landscape through the Floating World of Japanese Prints with the guidance of Professor Hong in Spring 2019. Sarah studied abroad in Paris in 2017 where she was able to immerse herself in French art and culture.
Sarah notes that: “Over the course of my time at Puget Sound, I have discovered that my interests lie in the realm of ‘Visual Culture’. Whether that interest has been explored by means of my French major, my Art History major, or my personal interest in studio art and curatorial work, it was not until the beginning of my senior year that I recognized that it was indeed ‘Visual Culture’ that attracted me to the things that I was interested in. Hearing about the new Visual Culture Pathway for an Interdisciplinary Humanities Emphasis changed the way I looked at what I studied. The opportunity to declare this emphasis gave me a clear overview about what I have been dedicating my life to over the past four years as a student here on campus, also giving my time here a comprehensive meaning and a well-deserved conclusion to my studies.”
