The Hashing Out the Truth campaign at the University of Puget Sound utilizes a public health approach to promote education and awareness of the varying effects of marijuana use. Additionally, prevention efforts are geared towards helping the campus community have an accurate understanding of the prevalence and recognizing that most Loggers choose not to use marijuana.

Legalizing marijuana in Washington State and other parts of the country have contributed to a decrease in the perception of risk related to using this drug. Marijuana is an addictive substance. The use or possession of marijuana is prohibited on the Puget Sound campus in accordance with the Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act.
