Members of the Campus Community,

Fostering a safe and respectful community is a responsibility we all share. As part of the university’s comprehensive approach to eliminate discrimination and harassment, I write with an important message about the university’s protections against discrimination and harassment, along with resources available to support the prevention, reporting, and investigation of discrimination and harassment, including sexual misconduct and sexual violence.

The University of Puget Sound is committed to maintaining a living, learning, and working environment free from discrimination and harassment. The university prohibits discrimination and harassment based on sex, race, color, national origin, religion, creed, age, disability, marital or familial status, sexual orientation, gender identity, sex stereotypes, sex characteristics, pregnancy or related conditions, military status, political affiliation, or any other characteristics protected by the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Americans with Disabilities Act, Washington Law Against Discrimination, and other applicable federal, state or local laws. These protections are in line with the University’s Statement on Equal Opportunity and Nondiscrimination, which may provide greater protection for our campus community than required by federal and state law.

We have established two key policies and associated procedures to support our prevention, reporting, investigation, and resolution efforts:

As members of the campus community, we are all protected by these policies and accountable for our conduct under the policies as well. We must each be committed to creating and maintaining a culture that prevents such acts from occurring, whether on our campus or in our communities.
