Grizz is the official mascot of the University of Puget Sound. This gritty grizzly bear loves all things Puget Sound, Logger Athletics, being out in nature, and making people smile. Grizz is playful, fun, energetic, and a little sassy. Grizz is a feature of campus life and is rumored to be one of the select few who know where the real hatchet is hidden (but this bear isn’t telling).

Grizz was created by the Associated Students of the University of Puget Sound (ASUPS) and unveiled at the Homecoming football game in 2005.

Grizz is passionate about sustainability and environmental stewardship. As a Logger, Grizz knows the value of a healthy forest and appreciates Puget Sound’s beautiful foliage as the perfect setting for serious learning. While Grizz hasn’t decided exactly what to major in, the grizzly has been known to audit several classes each semester.

When not busy attending events around campus or hanging out at the Den, Grizz can often be found reading in the shade of the President’s Woods, creating in the Maker Space, helping out backstage at Schneebeck Concert Hall, summiting the Mountain, or enjoying a cool dip in Commencement Bay. A true Pacific Northwesterner, Grizz loves a good cup of coffee, fresh berries, and salmon.

Grizz loves connecting with members of campus and the community — especially while cheering on the Loggers. At athletic events, Grizz is a force of nature, always in motion and always trying to get fans excited. Game day is when you’re most likely to see Grizz’s trusty axe, which often gets used to lead fans in chants of “Hack hack! Chop chop!” Above all, Grizz creates a welcoming and fun environment for students, alumni, fans, and visitors.
