Dear Loggers,
Over the last day, we have watched closely as horrible wind-driven wildfires have devastated several parts of Los Angeles and Riverside Counties. As this unfolds, we wanted to reach out to Puget Sound students from these impacted areas to check in, let you know we’re thinking about you, and see if there are any resources or help that we can provide from Tacoma.
Above all, we hope that you and your friends and family are safe. If any of you are directly impacted by the fires, please let us know as you are able. Our team is ready to work with departments across campus to assist you in what ways we can. In addition, we wanted to remind you of some of the resources you can access even before classes start in a couple of weeks.
- For 24/7 online counseling support, all Puget Sound students have access to Uwill. More information at: https://www.pugetsound.
edu/counseling-health- wellness-services-chws/ counseling-services/uwill - If you are concerned about the impact of the fires on your return to campus or other academic issues, please contact Debbie Chee, Sr. Associate Dean of Students (dchee@pugetsound.edu) or 253.879.2640.
- If you would like to talk with someone for non-clinical personal or social support, you can reach out to University Chaplain Dave Wright (dwright@pugetsound.edu) or Sonya Dauncey (sdauncey@pugetsound.edu) from our Student Support team.
- We hope this does not apply to any of you, but if your house has been damaged or destroyed, and you would like to consider moving back to campus early, please contact the Office of Residence Life at reslife@pugetsound.edu to explore the options.
Finally, if you would like to check in with someone by phone, text, or email, or have questions about these or other resources, please reply to this email with the best way to contact you and we will follow up within 24 hours.
With great care,
Sarah Comstock, Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students
