Welcome to Community Classes at the University of Puget Sound! Whether you are a current or future Logger, an alum or parent, or one of our neighbors in the community, we welcome you to join us for classes that bring you the best skills, tools, and knowledge that our prestigious faculty and staff have to offer. Anyone can take part—these classes are not associated with a degree or certification program. We simply invite you to learn with us and be inspired!

Phlebotomy

Phlebotomy

In Summer 2024, we are pleased to offer a course in phlebotomy, taught by our expert staff in Counseling, Health, & Wellness Services (CHWS). This non-credit course is set up to meet the State of Washington Department of Health Phlebotomist Certification requirements. It also prepares students to take the National Healthcareer Association national certification exam. Students will receive a certificate of completion. Please note that this course does not provide students with a Medical Assistant Phlebotomist license. This credential must be obtained through an application to the Washington DOH. This course is not part of a degree program and is open to everyone. No academic credit is granted.

  • The course includes HIV/AIDS training, Basic Anatomy and Physiology, medical terminology, and Blood borne pathogens, how to avoid pre-analytical errors, and how to be successful in collecting blood samples.
  • You will learn how to collect blood samples using all of the tools currently being used in the laboratory industry. Students will learn how to process samples to get them ready for analysis.
  • You will learn customer service skills, special collections protocol, and how to collect non-blood samples.
  • Enrollment is limited to 25 participants
  • Class time: Tuesdays and Thursdays 2 p.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Class dates: May 7, May 9, May 14, May 16, May 21, May 23, May 28, May 30, June 4, June 6, June 11, June 13, June 18, June 20, June 25, June 27
  • Fees: $610 plus textbook cost

Introduction to Ceramics

Community Ceramics

This introductory six-week course, taught by Puget Sound ceramics instructor Ronda Peck, will provide basic fundamentals on the spectacular possibilities of creating ceramic forms by both wheel and hand building methods.
