This general meeting for all supervisors of student staff will incorporate two main topics...
Supporting Every Student’s Success in Campus Employment
Panel discussion
In our work to support student staff members and create workplaces where students can bring their whole selves to work, it’s important to consider how each individual’s experience of success in their job is impacted by their lived experiences and identities.
This panel discussion about supervision will explore how to support students who identify as first-generation, experiencing food insecurity/financial hardship, struggling with mental health, and students who see themselves underrepresented on campus (race, ethnicity, sexuality, gender, religion), and prompts us to think about how we can
supervise in a way that promotes success for all students.
Communicating Expectations and Giving Feedback
Workshop facilitated by Prof. Amy Spivey from Physics and the Center for Writing & Learning
During this part of the program, we'll talk about strategies for communicating expectations, building rapport, and providing both positive and constructive feedback to student employees.
Professor Spivey will offer some ideas to consider and provide time for participants to talk to each other about how the ideas might be applicable and relevant in their departments.
