Susan Chan Piano Lecture and Recital
Join us for a lecture and piano recital featuring guest artist Susan Chan as part of the School of Music Keyboard Series. The program will include works by Zhou Long, Tan Dun, Alexina Louie, Lei Liang, and Zhang Zhao. Chan offers revelatory performances of “tremendous musicianship and technical mastery,” (Fanfare magazine) providing the “invaluable service of opening up new musical worlds to her audience(s).” (New York Concert Review)
Throughout her multifaceted career that includes performance on four continents, a highly acclaimed discography, teaching, directing, and outreach, Chan illuminates how heritage informs identity.
A master teacher whose students have won international competitions, Dr. Susan Chan serves as Professor of Piano and Piano Area Coordinator at Portland State University, and offers masterclasses worldwide. Read full bio.
Chan will be hosting a piano master class on Wednesday, April 22 from 3-4:30 p.m. in Trimble Hall, Trimble Forum. This is event is free and open to the public.
About the Series
The Jacobsen Series was established in 1984 in honor of Leonard Jacobsen, former chair and professor of Puget Sound’s piano department. Ticket sales support the Jacobsen Series Scholarship Fund, annual music scholarships awarded to outstanding student performers and scholars in the SAI international music organization.
