Distinguished by Design: Handmade Books from Medieval to the Modern
Jane Connelly is the Archivist & Special Collections Librarian at the University of Puget Sound. Jane Carlin recently retired as the Director of Collins Library. Together, they have worked to enhance the unique collections of Collins Library and are delighted to present on the history of the book from medieval times to the present day.
Join the "Janes" as they travel through time to explore the history of books with a focus on manuscript books, William Morris and the Kelmscott Press as well as the development of the modern artists’ book movement. They will reference the recently published book The Bookseller of Florence as they share the story of early manuscript books, scribal culture as well as focus on seminal points in book history including the Kelmscott Press and early artists’ books. Many examples from the Collins Collection including illuminated manuscripts, Kelmscott Press books and a selection of recently acquired artists’ books will be on display for your browsing pleasure.
