The Daedalus Lecture Series carves out a space for academic discussion, offering both a platform for sharing innovative work and the opportunity to come together as a diverse scholarly community. Rather than a teaching lecture, the presentations are conceived as a way to converse with and learn from one another in ways that enrich our community and broaden our interdisciplinary knowledge. Daedalus Lectures are intended to facilitate the sharing of research among colleagues.

This event is open to faculty, staff, retirees, emeriti, friends, and a small group of invited students. We invite you to the first presentation of the academic year from Lynnette Claire, Professor in the School of Business and Leadership, at 5 p.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2026.

Talk title: New Ideas in the AI Age

Description: How do new ideas emerge? Ideas that are likely to be transformative? Lynnette Claire studies opportunity recognition and has turned her attention to AI’s role. At the Daedalus talk, learn a bit about ideation, then get active! Experiment with developing ideas using conceptual combination. Some people will use AI to help them; some won’t. Engage in discussion of the most intriguing ideas and discover whether AI was involved. Relevant facts from research will illuminate how AI influences ideation. Leave with a better understanding of how to generate new ideas and insight about whether you want to involve AI.

Daedalus events are free of charge for all registered audience members! The event will include drinks and hors d’oeuvres, a presentation, and a closing Q&A session.
