Marena Fleites Lear’s research focuses on contemporary Latin American cinema, particularly depictions of the monstrous, the ghostly, and the posthuman as they are used by audiovisual artists to reckon with postcolonial and post-dictatorial conditions. Her teaching draws upon a hemispheric approach to Hispanophone visual and literary production, highlighting transnational connections.
