This course prepares students to thoughtfully select their Applied Practice Experiences through exposure to best practices in professional development and leadership. Organizational differences in leadership and management are explored to learn about the importance of building equitable partnerships and engaging in community-centered work. Students are also exposed to the collaborative and interdisciplinary nature of many public health programs and organizations. These discussions will center around the examination of moral issues in the field of public health, covering methodological approaches to ethical decision-making and cultural competency as public health leaders. Students will discuss how theory and concepts can be applied in practice by identifying their personal strengths, enhancing their professional development skills (networking, writing cover letters, preparing for interviews, etc.), and developing a plan for their Applied Practice Experiences.
