This course provides MAT candidates exposure to a range of topics related to inclusive teaching and learning, including curriculum related to Pacific Northwest indigenous histories and communities. Students will learn to apply developmentally, culturally, and linguistically appropriate instructional strategies and incorporate methods that elicit student engagement. The course includes skills, knowledge, and cultural experiences to effectively teach tribal history, sovereignty, and contemporary indigenous experiences in alignment with Washington State¿s John L McCoy Since Time Immemorial curriculum. The course includes a subsection devoted to teaching multi-lingual learners in schools.
