In this 100-level Connections course, first-year students will actively engage with a small group of peers and work closely with the professor and fellow students to transition into college around the theme of games.
In this class, we will build our community through an exploration of the history, art, math, psychology, computer science, and philosophy of games! We will regularly build camaraderie through playing games together in and out of class. Through the lens of games, we will also develop critical skills to help us transition to college at a liberal arts institution. These skills will include time management, the hidden curriculum, and belonging. We will learn how different academic disciplines approach the question of play and games and how those differing perspectives enrich one another. Our community-building project will be to design a board game of our very own to share with our fellow students!
