Dear members of the campus community,
During Cybersecurity Awareness Month, Technology Services wants to remind you of some simple habits to stay safe online. We encourage you to take time this October for some cyber self-care!
The Core 4 Cybersecurity Basics
How are you doing with these fundamental cybersecurity practices?
- Use strong passphrases. Are you still relying on that one password for all your accounts? This is the time to step up your password game! Use long and unique passphrases for each online account.
- Turn on multi-factor authentication (MFA). This is a simple and powerful way to protect your accounts, even if a scammer manages to obtain your password. If you haven't already, take a few minutes this week to enable MFA on your most important accounts (e.g. banking, email, social media).
- Recognize and report phishing. Earlier this month, we focused on social engineering scams. Did you catch the simulated phishing email?
- Update software. Stop hitting “remind me later!” Updates often include critical security patches that help keep your device safe from new attacks. Make sure to update your operating system, browser, and key applications on all your internet-connected devices.
Self-paced learning
Did you know that current faculty, staff, and students have access to a library of interactive learning modules about online security? Click on the KnowBe4 Security Awareness Training tile on your apps dashboard at login.pugetsound.edu to start exploring content. Students - we are excited to announce that we are now providing new content geared specifically for you!
Don’t know what to do with old devices?
Technology Services is offering a convenient E-Waste Collection Event on Thursday, October 23rd! Swing by the Tech Center anytime on Oct. 23 between 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. with old personal or departmental electronics. More details.
If you’d rather dispose of the device yourself, you can still register to learn what steps you should take before disposing of a device.
Want a fun challenge?
Put your knowledge to the test with a short quiz, Level Up Your Cyber Game! And remember, you still have time to mark off items on the Cyber Self-Care Bingo!
Prizes and providing feedback
