Hello Loggers!

Earth Day is on Monday, April 22, and we have some exciting ways to celebrate, both on campus and off.

Today’s Sustainable Food Festival:
Sustainability Services student workers are hosting a community-centered Sustainable Food Festival today to connect the campus with local environmentalists who focus on food equity and food justice. We'll have local food trucks highlighting vegetarian options, information about Sustainability Service's food waste pilot program, and spotlights on food-focused on-campus programs and community partners working towards food justice. Campus bands Juice Box and Young Neil, along with KUPS, will provide the soundtrack for the evening. Join us for an evening of good food, good tunes, and good company!

Dining Hall Signage for Earth Day:
On Monday, April 22, temporary signage is going up in the Dining Hall. We partnered with MyEmissions to calculate the carbon footprint of today’s lunch and dinner options. This signage will also highlight our investments in sustainable food – such as our cafes using Neutral Milk (a carbon-neutral cow milk) for their drinks. This switch is estimated to save 70,051 lbs of greenhouse gases on campus compared to traditional cow’s milk.

Off-Campus Earth Day Events:
There are a number of off-campus events scheduled for this coming weekend for Loggers to get out and volunteer in the community. Check out EarthDaySouthSound.org to find an event near you!

Lastly, check out the attached poster showcasing the university’s 2023 sustainability accomplishments. From going herbicide-free on our main campus to revamping the Sustainability Services website and continuing work on our climate action plan, we are increasing our investments in sustainability across campus.

Best,

Lexi Brewer | Director of Sustainability
