Dear Faculty and Staff Colleagues,

The Chaplaincy and the Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity remind you that during April members of our campus community will be observing three major spiritual/cultural traditions: Ramadan (April 2 – May 1), Passover (April 15 – April 23), and Easter (April 17).  As we enter this very busy month, we would like to encourage all of us on campus to be mindful and supportive of those seeking to balance their lives between integral personal identities and their roles as students or colleagues.

Ramadan begins on Saturday, April 2, at sunset and ends on the evening of Sunday, May 1. Members of our community observing Ramadan will fast between sunrise and sunset. During Passover, April 15 – April 23, those observing often adjust their diet to follow specific dietary guidelines that prohibit leavened food for the duration of the holiday. You can also support members of our community observing these spiritual/cultural traditions by making sure that events that include food are considerate of the particular needs based on these traditions.

If you would like to consult with us about ways to be supportive of members of our community observing these practices, please reach out to either of us.

For all members that observe these spiritual/cultural traditions:
May you have a blessed Ramadan.
May you have a happy Pesach.
May you have a blessed Easter.

Sincerely,

Dave Wright, Chaplain
