Request Funding

There are a number of ways for individuals and clubs to request funding for various activities, projects, and events.

Finance Committee

Finance Committee is comprised of ASUPS senators, executives, and students at large. The Finance Committee reviews finance proposals from clubs, individuals, and other student organizations and provides a recommendation to the ASUPS Senate. Their recommendation is not binding; the ASUPS Senate makes the final call with a vote.

The Finance Committee meets every Monday in Wheelock 201 at 9 p.m. If you are requesting funds from the Finance Committee you should submit a finance request before 4 p.m. on the Friday before the Monday you’d like to present to Finance Committee. At least one person from your club or organization requesting funding should come to discuss the request and provide more detail. Provide as much detail as you’d like; funding requests that are clearly thought out and have as much detail as possible allow for the Finance Committee to make a holistic review and recommendation to the Senate. There is no need for formal attire at this initial meeting. The ASUPS Vice President will follow up with you the following day with the Finance Committee’s recommendation.

That recommendation is also forwarded to the ASUPS Senate, who ultimately has the final say. A representative of your club or organization is then required to attend and present at ASUPS Senate, which is held on Thursdays in the Murray Boardroom at 7 p.m. This is an opportunity to present your case again if you did not receive the amount of funding you hoped for. If you are satisfied with the recommendation, you are still required to attend the meeting to receive funding. Semi-formal attire is recommended, but not required. Following the ASUPS Senate vote, the ASUPS Director of Business Services will reach out to you regarding the process of receiving your allocated funds.

More information on the Finance Committee Expenses Guidelines will be posted here

Finance Requests

Funding for additional club budgets, projects, events, speaker honorariums, and similar such things will, if approved, come from the Finance fund. This funding is available to all student organizations recognized by ASUPS and fee-paying members of ASUPS.

Capital Requests

Capital requests should be made for fixed, one-time expenses incurred on the purchase of materials, equipment, and other such items that will be retained and used for more than one year. These items can be purchased through the ASUPS Capital budget, rather than club budgets, and will remain ASUPS property lent to clubs. The intention for this is so that in the event a club or organization stops running, the item or equipment can still continue to be used by other clubs and organizations or can be stored and reused in the event the club becomes functional again in the future.

The Green Fund

The Green Fund was established in 2013 as a way to support students seeking to implement projects improving campus sustainability. ASUPS recognizes the urgency of climate change, and the necessity to work towards improving sustainability. As such, this is a means by which ASUPS can directly support and encourage involvement with sustainability and environmental justice. The money comes from the ASUPS student government fee; three dollars from each student’s fee is set aside for the Green Fee project fund. The fee is administered in two cycles: once in the fall, and once in the spring. Students have the opportunity to apply for both. Capital projects may not apply for both cycles for the same project within the same academic year.

The fee should be utilized as a resource for students, either individually or collectively, who have relatively concrete ideas for a project. More information on the Green Fund will be posted here

The Expressions Fund

This is the first year the Expressions Fee is available for student projects. The fee was established in 2016 to support students seeking to improve the campus climate as it relates to the inclusivity of student identities, particularly, but not limited to, race, gender, sexuality, ability, class. Projects that seek to raise consciousness among the student body, develop allies, and express self-identity are encouraged. The money comes from the ASUPS student government fee; two dollars from each student’s fee is set aside for the Expressions Fee project fund. The fee is administered in two cycles, once in the fall and once in the spring. Students have the opportunity to apply for both.

The fee should be utilized as a resource for students, either individually or collectively, who have relatively concrete ideas for a project. More information on the Expressions Fund will be posted here

Funding from the University Enrichment Committee

The University Enrichment Committee is a committee comprised of Faculty, Staff, and students, that provides funding for research and travel to conferences to present research. ASUPS provides funding for such travel and research through contributions to the University Enrichment Committee budget.

More information about applying for funding and the timeline for applications will be posted here.
