What has been your favorite academic experience at Puget Sound and why?

The seminar class I took my freshman year! It was all about exploring the Pacific Northwest, and it completely changed my perspective on how I immerse myself in my environment. It was a new, challenging, and abstract way of thinking for me, but it pushed me out of my comfort zone and required me to get off campus and explore!

Where is your favorite place in Tacoma?

Point Rustin is a go to spot, but thrifting down 6th Ave is a new hobby of mine—plus there are so many good restaurants!

In one sentence, please describe what you value the most about your Puget Sound experience.

I value having the liberal arts aspect of taking a variety of different classes while also being able to participate in college athletics.

What is the one song or album that best depicts your college experience thus far?

"Alaska" by Maggie Rogers because, prior to college, I felt very suffocated in the life we grew up knowing. I can relate to the liberation and freedom Maggie describes as I was able to leave Las Vegas and move to a city where the culture was COMPLETELY different from my hometown.

If you could be any fictional character from a movie or a book, who would it be and why?

Hands down, I’d be Moana. It’s the bravery, courage, and determination for me. Plus, you got to love all the personality and attitude she brings to the table.

Aaliah's Interests at Puget Sound

Ka ’Ohana me ke Aloha is the Hawai’i Club at the University of Puget Sound. Its name translates simply into “The Family with Love” and was created with the intent to provide a Hawaiian-style family support group for students while sharing the island culture with the rest of the Puget Sound community.

Knowledge of communication is beneficial for any career. If you enjoy studying communication, but do not plan on pursuing it as a career, consider taking as many communication courses as you can fit into your elective selections!
