Catherine (Kat) Cunningham is an Hispanic International Studies major from Boulder, Colorado. Kat is a member of both Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Beta Kappa national honor societies. Kat participated in several campus groups, including Downbeat Social Dance Club, It's On Us, and Students Against Sexual Assault. Kat held an internship position with AfricAid, a Denver-based organization that partnered with artisans in Tanzania to sell their products in the United States. Kat's role was to catalog the merchandise and create advertisement materials. While studying abroad in Chile as part of CIEE's Latin American Context Program, Kat conducted an ethnographic project with students who organized a boycott of their University's lack of Harassment and Sexual Assault protocols. Kat's thesis, titled Activism as Development: The Socially Transformative Power of Student Feminisms Throughout the Americas during the ‘Long Sixties,' focuses attention on activism within the development community, and asserts that student activism contributes to development and the enhancement of individual capabilities.
