Dear Members of the Campus Community,

The board of trustees recently concluded our fall meetings on campus. We were pleased to have many opportunities to talk with students, faculty, and staff, and several of us were even brave enough to sit in on a few classes—a definite highlight of our time together.

Key issues under discussion at the fall meeting included the opportunity to:

engage in conversation about key questions related to Puget Sound’s strategic planning initiative, including institutional strengths, external factors, diversity and inclusion, market research, and an exploration of entrepreneurial activities that would further our academic mission; learn more about Puget Sound’s enrollment initiatives from Vice President for Enrollment Laura Martin-Fedich; review plans for the development of a new welcome center to better meet the needs of prospective students and their families and create additional meeting spaces for the Puget Sound community; and
review the performance of Puget Sound’s endowment and set fundraising goals for the coming year.
We were also pleased to welcome Andrea Davis ’02 in her new role as Alumni Council President, and this year’s appointees to policy committees:

  • Academic and Student Affairs: Professor Monica DeHart and Jae Bates ’18
  • Development and Alumni Relations: Professor Suzanne Holland and Soli Mar Loya-Lara ’18
  • Finance and Facilities: Professor Eric Orlin and Lisa Grimm ’20

I was happy as always to see students in particular attend the board’s business meeting, which is open to students, faculty, and staff. On behalf of my colleagues on the board, thank you for your many contributions to making the university an ever better community of, in the words of one of our business meeting guests, “an exceptional community of passionate people looking to make a difference in the world.”

Sincerely,

Robert C. Pohlad P’07
