Part-Time Employment

Learn on the Job
Whether you’re interested in a flexible position that accommodates your schedule or a job that dovetails with your future career plans, we’re here to support you in finding the right fit.

Working a part-time job during college is an excellent way to gain valuable experience, grow your marketable skillset, and earn money toward your education at Puget Sound.

On-Campus Jobs

Jobs on campus may be part-time, temporary, or seasonal and include roles with Dining and Conference Services, Facilities Services, Security Services, Collins Memorial Library, and many others. Student employment opportunities are posted on Handshake, Puget Sound’s online job board. On-campus jobs are available for any student with no eligibility requirements.

Work-Study Jobs

As part of your financial aid package, you may be eligible for a work-study position on campus or in the community. Federal and state work-study programs are awarded based on financial need. Career and Employment Services can help refer you to eligible jobs either on-campus or with a partnering community organization. Unlike regular on-campus jobs, work-study positions are available only for students who qualify and open positions are limited.

Off-Campus Jobs

Many local businesses in the Tacoma community love hiring Loggers. Career and Employment Services can help you find nearby businesses with job openings and can even help craft your resume and prepare for your interview. Several local employers also post positions to Handshake, where you might also find neighbors looking for movers, house-sitters, or babysitters.

Internships

An internship is an excellent way to get relevant job experience in your field or help you explore options in multiple fields to see if they’re the right fit for you. These can be paid, unpaid, or even offered for academic credit. You can also try a micro-internship lasting between one week and one month to build your professional portfolio.

A part-time job can help you be more successful in school

Studies have found that students who work part-time are better organized, more likely to stay in school, and have higher GPAs than their peers.
