From faculty research and educational sessions to student investigations and faculty/student collaborative studies, for nearly two decades, the UPS Physical Therapy Program has annually contributed a significant number of presentations to APTA’s Combined Sections Meeting. This year’s CSM was held February 12-15, 2020 in Denver, Colorado.

This year's participation topic was: "Down Syndrome: What Do We Do and What Do We Know?"

Julia Elizabeth Looper, PT, PhD, Alyssa C. LaForme Fiss, PT, PhD and Rebekah Johnson, SPT3.

Children with Down Syndrome (DS) are commonly treated by physical therapists. However, there are varying amounts of evidence regarding evaluation tools, interventions, and even common physical therapy-related problems observed in children with DS. The presenters shared the results of a recently conducted national survey to determine the state of physical therapist practice for children with DS. This session compared these survey results with current literature to determine what the research suggests about our assumptions of children with DS. Discussion included assessment of the evidence for the evaluation tools and interventions therapists report using with this population.
