Peter Atwill, Class of 2018, was an International Political Economy major from State College, Pennsylvania. In addition to working at KUPS, Puget Sound's radio station, Peter also conducted an ethnographic project on perceptions of Islamophobia among Muslim residents of Tacoma. While studying abroad in Amman, Jordan, Peter interned and conducted research with three organizations: Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center, Center for Middle East and Africa Studies, and Amman Center for Human Rights. Peter also studied abroad in Beijing, China. For his GDS senior thesis, Peter wrote about the social costs of international remittances in Southeast Asia, and argued that remittance-driven development comes at a social cost for communities in Southeast Asia left behind by migrants.
