Dear faculty and staff colleagues,

Congratulations on another successful academic year! With commencement behind us, the university is now preparing for another busy summer conference season. From May 29 through August 6, Puget Sound will host more than 80 conference and camp programs on campus. Throughout the summer, guests will stay in residence halls, dine in the Diner and catered spaces, and use indoor and outdoor gathering areas across campus.

We are especially pleased to welcome the Special Olympics Washington back to campus for a second year. Athletes and coaches will begin arriving on Friday, May 29, with logistics and setup activity beginning earlier in the week.

To support event operations, please be aware of the following temporary traffic and parking impacts:

  • The parking lot at the Aquatics Center will be closed from Monday, May 25, through Sunday, May 31.
  • North 11th Street will be closed to traffic on game days, May 30 and 31.

Conference staff and student staff will be available daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Wheelock Student Center Lobby and the Dining & Event Services Offices while guests are on campus. If you encounter a guest who is lost or has questions, please direct them there for assistance.

Hosting summer conferences and camps benefits the university community in several important ways:

  • Conference activity supports continued summer operations in the Diner and Diversions Café, allowing these services to remain available to the campus community throughout the summer months.
  • Summer programs create additional employment opportunities for Dining staff who wish to work beyond the academic year.
  • Thousands of youth visitors gain exposure to Puget Sound and the university experience.
  • Conference and camp activity generates important auxiliary revenue through the use of residence halls, dining facilities, and campus gathering spaces during the summer months.

To help faculty and staff plan around peak dining times, the chart below lists the number of conference guests expected at lunch each day throughout the summer. On days with 500 or more lunch guests, we recommend dining before 11:30 a.m. or after 1 p.m.

To provide additional lunch options during the busy summer months, the Diner team has also created an expanded summer menu available through the GET Mobile Ordering App, Monday–Friday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., excluding holidays and campus closure days. The expanded menu is attached (PDF).

Thank you for your support and flexibility as we welcome guests to campus this summer. These programs provide important opportunities for the university while helping introduce future students and families to the Puget Sound community.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Aaron Shook | Director of Auxiliary and Business Services
