Dear Members of the Campus Community,

As part of the university's comprehensive approach to eliminating sexual violence, I am writing to remind you of the resources available to prevent, report, and investigate sexual misconduct.

I urge all of us – students, faculty, and staff members – to uphold these important policies and procedures that are designed to protect everyone who lives, works, and learns on our campus. We all must be vigilant in fostering a culture that prevents such acts from occurring, whether on our campus or in our communities.

As a reminder, faculty, staff, and some student employees are required to report any concerns of discrimination or harassment, including sexual violence, to Sandra Braedt, the Title IX and Equal Opportunity Officer, preferably through the online form on the Title IX/ Equal Opportunity website www.pugetsound.edu/report. Alternate methods include reporting by phone (253.879.3793) or email (titleix-eoo@pugetsound.edu). You may also visit the site to learn more about this law, which states that “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.”

Training

  • All incoming students were required to complete the prevention training modules assigned in early August. The Division of Student Affairs professional staff ensured a 100% completion rate with this year’s incoming group.
  • All staff and faculty are required to annually complete the online prevention training module assigned by Human Resources. If you have questions on how to access the training, please contact Human Resources at HR@pugetsound.edu
  • Additional training on Title IX-related topics (and many others) is available through the Compliance Training tile in your login.pugetsound.edu homepage - select Extra Training in the left-hand menu.

Sexual Assault Advocacy

  • The Center for Student Support has professional and student staff who can serve as confidential sexual assault advocates for students (for any situation that does not include a faculty/staff member or a legal minor). There is a specially trained group of students who serve as sexual assault advocates called Peer Allies. Students can contact the Director of Student Support at ehetland@pugetsound.edu or 253.879.3365 for more information.
  • Counseling, Health & Wellness Services (CHWS) provides services to students and can be reached at 253.879.1555 or chws@pugetsound.edu. Please visit the CHWS page to learn more.
  • Dave Wright, University Chaplain, serves as a resource for the campus community and can be reached at 253.879.3818 or chaplain@pugetsound.edu.
  • Priti Joshi serves as a faculty ombudsperson and can provide confidential assistance to faculty. Priti can be reached at ombuds@pugetsound.edu.
  • A comprehensive review of confidential and privileged resources is available on the new Sexual Misconduct Education and Resources site.

Resources:

  • Policy Prohibiting Sex-Based Discrimination, Sexual Harassment, and Sexual Misconduct covers all students, faculty, and staff, regardless of gender, and includes sexual harassment, sexual assault, relationship violence, stalking, retaliation, and prohibited relations. Please take the time now to review the policy and be fully aware of your responsibilities.
  • The Title IX and Equal Opportunity website includes the policies and procedures associated with the prohibition of discrimination and harassment, contact information for confidential resources, and information on how to file a report to the university.

Thank you for everything you do to help make University of Puget Sound a place where every community member is valued and respected.

Sincerely,

Sandra Braedt, PHR, SHRM-CP | Title IX Coordinator/Equal Opportunity Officer
