Dear Puget Sound Community,

The Academic, Administrative, and Auxiliary Program Review Steering Committee continues to make good progress in developing the foundational elements of the comprehensive program review.

To date:

  • The Program Review Steering Committee will have met six times during the fall semester, and hosted one open campus forum. The October 2021 Board of Trustees meeting also included a presentation by Stevens Strategy consultant, Brendan Leonard, about the status of the program review.
  • Two smaller groups—the Survey Team and the Data Group—have met several times each to develop two surveys and establish which data is available at the university and how it can be accessed. Faculty and staff from the steering committee serve on both of these smaller groups.
  • The Survey Team has developed, in collaboration with Stevens Strategy, two surveys: a survey on Mission and Quality, and a survey on Marketability. All members of the campus community will receive the Mission and Quality survey to complete, as will alumni. The survey will come from Stevens Strategy and/or Rachel Pauletti. So that the Steering Committee has ample information with which to work, faculty, staff, alumni, and students are strongly encouraged to complete the surveys. Prospective students and alumni will receive the Marketability survey. In addition, peer institutions also will receive a survey to complete to allow for peer comparison of administrative units.
  • A website with key information has been developed for members of the Puget Sound community: www.pugetsound.edu/program-review
    • On the website are several documents: The Charge of the Program Committee, shared with the Steering Committee in July, includes information in the Appendix that has been determined in the last few months. The Charge includes the list the programs and areas for which data is being collected—the list has been added now that the challenging work of sifting through and aligning internal data has been completed. Also, the list of possible new academic programs has been included in the Charge and will be included in the Marketability survey. In addition, the Schedule for Program Review, and the list of subcommittee members and chairs of subcommittees also are linked.
  • Please keep these documents and the information in them confidential within the Puget Sound community—you will need to access the documents using Puget Sound credentials.

Looking Ahead:

  • Once the data has been collected, the Steering Committee will begin to meet in January and will meet much more frequently.  The full Steering Committee also will divide into five subcommittees, each chaired by a faculty member, to begin to analyze the data and make recommendations.
  • Additional campus open fora will occur during the spring semester and next fall semester, in advance of October 2022 where the recommendations will be presented by the President to the Board of Trustees.
  • On the website is the link to the Feedback Form, which invites you to offer your questions and comments about the program review. The Feedback Form is at this link: https://forms.gle/kcs3sSGSoVL9Lq7q6. Questions or comments that are submitted via the Feedback Form are shared in their entirety with the Program Review Steering Committee.  We welcome your questions or comments throughout the program review process.

Finally, in addition to other members of the Program Review Steering Committee who are available for questions, Laura Behling, Provost, and Sherry Mondou, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, will be hosting open office hours for faculty, staff, and students about the program review process.  If you have questions or comments, please stop by the lounge outside Diversions Café on December 2, between 8-8:50 a.m. or December 8 between 11-11:45 a.m. to talk with them.

Thank you for your continued interest in the comprehensive Program Review.
