Chalk-fronted Corporal

Chalk-fronted Corporal

Ladona julia
male, Langendorfer Lake, King Co., WA; 15 Aug 1997
This specimen was scanned to show the wing wear that can occur on very old dragonflies; the date is at the end of the flight season. Note that a tarsus is missing from one hind leg; this may be the work of ants, which are probably more likely to attack a ground-perching dragonfly than one that perches up on branches.
