Basic First Aid & CPR

This is usually an 8 hour course for those working within the 911 response area. This course is for people who expect to have less than 1 hour for 911 to respond with advanced life support.

$40 - $80

CPR

Wilderness First Aid (WFA)

Current WFA Course Information
These 18-24 hour courses are designed for outdoor enthusiasts. It is the basic level of care necessary for many first time leaders. This is the minimum level of first aid necessary for all Passages and Puget Sound Outdoors Leaders who are leading overnight canoe, kayaking and backpacking trips. PSO offers a WFA course each spring see the schedule for more information.  Make sure to compare whether the course you are taking is a 2 or a 3 day course.  The 3 day course offers more skills and more time to practice.  PSO and Passages leaders are required to take a 24 course or a distance learning course which counts for 24 hours.

Cost: $200 - $275

Wilderness Advanced First Aid (WAFA)

This is a ~40 hour coursed designed for many leaders. This course can be used to recertify a WFR for some companies.

Cost: $225 - $350

Wilderness First Responder (WFR)

Current WFR Course Information
This is an 80+ hour course that has become the course that most outdoor professionals have who are leading trips for organizations like Outward Bound Wilderness, the National Outdoor Leadership School, YMCA adventure programs, and the Student Conservation Association. PSO offers a WFR course through WMTC each January, see the schedule for more information.

There are a plethora of courses available by National, Regional and Local providers. Most of the courses are well done and reputable. Make sure to look into the companies before you take their course. Also look to see if the price includes food or housing?

Wilderness First Responder "REVIEW" Course (WFR Review/Recert)

Current WFR Review Course Information
After taking a WFR course it is crucial to keep your skills up by doing simulatinos with friends. After 1-2 years it is recommended that you take a review course. Please contact the course provider to find out more information and what they recommend to stay current.
