First Aid Kits for College Students
Be prepared with a well-stocked first aid kit. Keep one in your room and one in your car. First aid kits come in various shapes and sizes. You can use a tool or art box, or purchase one from the Red Cross online store. Local drug stores often have them for sale.
The following list will help you manage in emergencies:
- First aid manual
- Adhesive tape
- Sterile gauze pads (2x2 inches and 4x4 inches)
- Adhesive bandages (band-aids) in several sizes
- Elastic bandage (“Ace”)
- Triangular bandages (two)
- Roller gauze bandages (3 inches wide and 4 inches wide)
- Soap, hand sanitizer and antiseptic wipes
- Triple antibiotic cream
- Hydrocortisone cream (1%)
- Calamine lotion
- Acetaminophen and ibuprofen
- Tweezers
- Sharp scissors
- Safety pins
- Hot/cold packs
- Oral thermometer (non-glass/non-mercury)
- Non-latex gloves
- Mouthpiece for administering CPR with one-way valve (may be purchased from local Red Cross)
- Flashlight and extra batteries
- Phone charger
- Bottled water or water purification pump or tablets and a Nalgene bottle
- A few zip lock bags.
