Yuxin SunDoctoral Intern

Yuxin is a doctoral intern completing her Ph.D. at Auburn University in Alabama. She earned her master’s degree from the University of Minnesota. Yuxin had the privilege of working in different university counseling centers and is passionate about continuing her adventure with students at Puget Sound. In her clinical trainings, Yuxin has been afforded the opportunity to work with variety of mental health concerns among diverse populations.

Yuxin’s clinical interests are in working with individuals from minoritized groups, grief and bereavement, and family of origin issues. As a member in the CHWS team, Yuxin provides individual therapy and group therapy, as well as outreach and prevention programs.

In therapy, Yuxin focuses on building a safe and genuine bond with students, as she believes it is a key in producing positive therapeutic outcomes. She also makes efforts to help students better understand themselves as well as their relationships with others, for the purpose of making long-term changes in their life. Theoretically, she integrates Emotion Focused Therapy and Existential-Humanistic Therapy, and adjusts her approaches according to students’ needs.

In her spare time, Yuxin enjoys spending time with her cat, cooking, traveling, and exploring local restaurants.
